if thompson throws a pick they should put smothers in to do some running...

this would require forward thinking on frost's part...
to go ahead and tell thompson he's not being mean to him
but..
instead putting in some deadly running plays, to directly mess with oklahoma's dc...

alot of times you have to think ahead of the crowd..they call it leadership.
you could even have thompson raise up his hands in frustration..
all the while he knows he's going in the next series..

do something like that instead of making the kickoff guy look dumb

I'm a big proponent of inserting QB#2 into games for a series or two, or more if they're successful. You'll never know if you have a GameDay baller, like Joe Ganz, if they don't see the field.

I get pretty tired of watching a banged up QB continually inserted into games when a fully healthy QB is on the bench.

Do you know that Chubba is the backup and who is banged up.

I've always liked giving the No. 2 QB some playing time. I don't think it is a good idea, however, to punish the starter after a mistake/interception by immediately putting him on the bench. Destroys confidence and inhibits future plays. You should make clear before the game that the No. 2 will be given some playing time regardless of the situation. And the reason for that is to make sure there is some depth at the position in case of injury.

it's not punishing him, no qb goes thru the season without a pick..and odds rise with 0u..
it's a opportunity to mess with 0u's d...
it's basicly a plan b.....allways have a plan b...
I never understood the pouting qb thing, if your good the nfl will be on the phone,,,they got guys for that..
and they understand picks happen too.

0u's dc is over there thinking things are in disarray,,, but really your just ready to pull the trigger on the other barrel..

OK, serious question in all of this. Do you really think that Nebraska can throw something at OU or any other team for that matter that they don't expect, haven't seen or planned for? This isn't HS football, draw up plays in the dirt for that Friday night. There is film on every player and the coaches tendencies before they even came to Nebraska as well. Sure, there may be a short adjustment on D when they enter the game, but it isn't like they haven't ever seen this before.

Then there is the "give them something else to plan for idea." You only have so much time to practice each week and there are generally special plays, sets and install planned for the opponent based on how they line up. So there is a limited time for the O to practice as well so you are spreading all of that around. It isn't just the D that has to plan all of this, the O does as well.

The other way to look at it is if they see Smothers come in, that gives the D some clues as to how to set up possibly. I would bring corners up a bit tighter, not as likely to have one go over your head, widen your LB's a half step, bring a safety up among a million other things. Adjustments happen all of the time and there isn't much new they don't already have stored on their iPads, guaranteed.

well like a few years back, crouch had a play on 0u they didn't expect, nor plan for..and that there went for a touchdown. a might big one too(they was standing round lookin like dummies). now lets say frost calls a onside kick at our 2 yard line,,in the first quarter and oklahoma get it right away and scores...then thompsons feeling pressure to score..and forces it a lil to much and it gets picked..the next series...is when smothers comes in with a crouch type play for a td...

Pardon me if I can not follow your logic here. There is a difference between setting up a play you will run once a year like Crouch did and putting in a series of plays for a different QB. That was what you were talking about.

you set the play up, when smothers enter the nw game, he got a good chuck of yards right off the bat..run that a few time then bam...hit em with the play.......this is what I'm talking about...leading

So...why can't you do that with any QB utilizing their skill set? If it was the perfect fix, great but we just need to play better fundamental football.

Did anyone notice that thompson was icing the non throwing shoulder in the presser after the game. Would I wait for interception. No. You are going to have to manage the hits on thompson to make sure he is ready for Oklahoma. I think thompson is the clear number one.

These dudes are constantly icing everything after practice and games. It's football!
