Seems like they get about half of what they should be gettingHas Nebraska been getting the majority of the talent in the state the last few years? Just wondering.
Does it really matter. A 4* coming out of Neb vs a 4* coming out of Georgia is different. I get they use the same scale, but it’s like be the tallest midget. You’re still a midget.Has Nebraska been getting the majority of the talent in the state the last few years? Just wondering.
There's the problem in a nutshell. If you look at the states bordering Nebraska - Iowa, S. Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas..... - all are very weak HS football states and if you don't think so, do a similar 247 Composite search like above. The HS football starts to get somewhat stronger when you get into Illinois and Indiana and especially in Ohio, Michigan and western PA.. A bigger than life personality, that can also coach, to make kids drive 300-1000 extra miles when football factories are all within a 5 hour drive. If you don't find that guy with all the extra special gifts, I think your days of being "Nebraska" are over. And, yes, I think its kind of sad also. I also remember Big Red.
Realistic expectations are the same as they used to be. Nebraska does not have the population or the prospects so we need a solid program that is only possible with excellent coaching. Then more good out of state prospects will consider us.Mind if an outsider asks a question? What are your realistic expectations? Your in a state that even if you dominate recruiting, it isn't close to enough. The population of the entire state is about half the population of Atlanta. You have to coax kids to come from all over the nation to come to the middle of nowhere and in the process how many powerhouse schools to they have to drive past? Short of finding that transcendent personality that can make Tommie Frazier spurn all three big in-state schools, what do you honestly think is reasonable? That's what its going to take.
Frost was lazy recruiting Nebraska. Everyone in the know realizes that. But here's the deal, do you think that a guy who is lazy with in-state recruiting would be a meticulous, out work everyone else, bulldog with out of state recruiting? Of course not. He half-assed out of state recruiting too! Sure we got a few guys each year, but he also pulled in plenty of questionable prospects whose only attribute was that they had 3 or 4 stars next to their name. And those guys are long gone or their *** is glued to the bench. Some of them. Or knew there was no shot and didn’t waste the time.
Short answer is yes. They lost out on only a few players they have wanted the last couple of years.Has Nebraska been getting the majority of the talent in the state the last few years? Just wondering.

Oddly random statement. Not a single player on that list would start at Minnesota
What good does it do to get in state recruits when they don't do anything on the field ? I say stop recruiting Nebraska and start hitting California and maybe Texas. We have to do something different than we have for the last 20 years.Has Nebraska been getting the majority of the talent in the state the last few years? Just wondering.
A great fan base is a great place to start. It takes a lot more than just being a good X's and O's guy and motivator. Could be that Frost was both of those. Programs like Georgia and LSU are going to be no worse than good by throwing their helmets on the field (BTW, I hate both of them, I went to Auburn). There is enough in-state talent that they will sign enough by accident to field a good team. Neither really competes with another in-state school. They may have to fend off other schools for their premium players but the D1 eligible players in those states is a hundred deep. Same with Florida but there are more schools at the trough. We have the advantage of being close enough to all of them to grab up a couple from each state that they simply don't have the room to sign. And we're a two hour drive away. I'm sympathetic, my Dad got his master's at Nebraska (undergrad at UF). I just don't see a path for you IF all things are equal. You have to find a way to make kids go that far away, passing other football factories as they drive. Because you "used" to be Nebraska isn't enough. That takes the "transcendent" personality that is superior to your competitors. A good football coach is easy to find, I think Frost was a good football coach. The guy with the something special is rare.
This is absolutely not true.Short answer is yes. They lost out on only a few players they have wanted the last couple of years.
