I rarely post important personal issues on this board but since this is also very important to the history of West Virginia and many citizens, I will.

The day before my fifth birthday, the Farmington #9 coal mine explosion happened which has impacted my family ever since. The first link below is a newspaper article on my cousin and about his father (my uncle) on that fateful day. I think all might find it interesting as it is a good story. The second link is a 22 minute documentary on the disaster if you don't know much about it. At the 7:07 mark, there is a clip of another uncle of mine and my mother from a NBC national news coverage at the time.

On this week of Thanksgiving, please take a moment to yourself to give thanks for your loved ones and remember those that you may have lost. I know I will give special thanks to my grandfather and uncle who sacrificed their lives in the mines of Marion County for the benefit of the rest of my family. Everyone has a story such as this and just give them their due respect and honor if you can.

Have a blessed week and I'll be back sometime after this week.

I went down in that mine after it happened. You wouldn't believe what it looked like. I was taken back by the carnage. A terrible disaster.
