I suppose it's useful to separate out passing yds allowed and rush yds allowed to measure defensive production. But, yeah, all yards contribute to the outcome of the game...returns, penalties, net punting, etc.

Exactly. And if Iowa didn't have a gimpy D-back in the game, Michigan doesn't throw for that one TD. Whittingham has been around a long time, but he clearly has a lot to learn about football. Glad Iowa was able to advance his education.

Oh most definitely. I and you and I am sure many others look at those big special teams and defensive yards and scores. Especially for a team like Iowa that excel in those areas. They call it total yards so and it means however you are carrying the ball, and #22 Jackson just put an ankle busting move on the Mich kicker to go the distance, such a natural move

Bring up a great point. Hidden yards a Kirk special. Everitt had a better day punting where we got edge with 3 inside the 11 to go along with kick return yards. More hidden yards is michigans lack of discipline with 8 penalties including the huge late personal foul.
