I left for vacation early Saturday morning, and watched essentially nothing after 600am......so I'm in no position to comment on what happened the last 2 days. But I'll be curious to see where a majority of the blame......which we KNOW, solely from reading this board on a daily basis, is more important than ANYTHING else.....ends up being placed.
In listening to PGA Tour Radio yesterday, a fair amount was being focused on Furyk.....which is the way it goes in this event.....for some of his lineup selections. Mickelson was being called out (mildly) for his no-show, and the broadcasters actually had the temerity to note Tiger's equivalent disappearing act. I actually didn't hear much about Reed, who I understand became the Frogs' personal whipping boy.
But they DID make specific note of the US team's apparently borderline idiotic insistence of a bombs-away attitude on a course setup specifically to penalize missing the fairway. Curious to know if it was THAT noticeable on the broadcast......and just as importantly, if the NBC broadasters in the booth picked up on it.
As head coach, Furyk is obviously forced (rightly or wrongly) to shoulder at least some of the responsibility for (evidently) mis-managing his team's approach. But I find myself wondering how tough it is for these guys to realize you just gotta, at some point, hit it in the short grass ?? In other words, to what extent will the players themselves ULTIMATELY be blamed as much (or more) than the leader for the waxing ??
