I dont see the big deal. Landslide is subjective anyway. He gets a rise out of his opposition. Obama loved to do that too.I agree with the libs on this one....Trump did not win in a "landslide".
In 2008 Obama and the Democrats did get a decisive victory. They squandered it to a large degree, but they did win decisively. Trump got a solid electoral win, but he had a substantial deficit in popular vote - most of that was CA, something like 75%of it.I dont see the big deal. Landslide is subjective anyway. Those 2 states count in the popular vote. According to your count, it was a tie if you remove those 2 states. I'm not saying that to support a move away from the Electoral College, only to point out that this isn't some sort of landslide win.Difference of 5 million (~3.2 million in CA, ~1.8 in NY) in two states alone. Those two states withstanding, Trump won the popular vote.

What is a landslide? What has to happen to get a landslide? Those 2 states count in the popular vote. According to your count, it was a tie if you remove those 2 states. I would say at a minimum that you need to win the popular vote and the Electoral College. I don't think Obama won in a landslide in 2008. I'd probably say the last one of those was 1988 when Bush trounced Dukakis. I don't honestly remember how soundly Clinton beat Dole in 96 though. What is a landslide? What has to happen to get a landslide?
And what is the penalty for failure to get both? Constitution says you only need one. What are the advantages reaped if you carry 48-49 or 50 states? What do you get in the way of a bonus?I would say at a minimum that you need to win the popular vote and the Electoral College. I don't think Obama won in a landslide in 2008. And except for the Oklahoma and Oklahoma State games, we were undefeated this year
It equates to a "mandate" from the American people. I think it gives an administration more symbolic support for change. I mean, I really hope it's not just egoI dont see the big deal. Landslide is subjective anyway. He gets a rise out of his opposition. Obama loved to do that too.

Well, it does actually mean that more Americans voted for Hillary than Trump, as far as who gets sworn in - it means jack, but I wouldn't say it means nothing.I didn't make the point, you did. I was only clarifying. The popular vote doesn't mean anything.
I wouldn't say that. Had Trump won overwhelmingly, it would say to someone like me on the other side that the majority of people in this country wants us to go in a different direction. It also provides substantial political capital for a new administration. Congress has to follow the mandate no matter who is in power, because they become the barrier to what the people want done if they do not support the president's agenda. So, in other words, it means nothing. Got it.
Would winning those two games made us a better team than what we have now? Clearly, we would have had a better record W-L, but would that have even made us a better team than we are now? Would we have been in playoffs? If we win each by FG? Win each by 3 TDs? Is there any way WV could have jumped others into the playoffs? I seriously doubt we get in without a total thrashing of the two. Just cannot see that many votes available to swing.Invalid. Those games meant something. Popular vote doesn't.

I guess polls aren't rigged after all? Big spike there, 35% feel Trump will lead us in the right direction....wowPerhaps an opinion poll might give us better information than votes for two horrendous candidates. I wonder if such a thing exists?

I don't know. I think the argument for dissolving the electoral college is valid. Even the founding fathers knew they weren't infallible you know.Respect fully disagree, the popular vote means nothing. If the popular vote were the deciding factor, both campaigns would alter how and where they campaign. No one has any idea how the campaign would've turned out if Trump and Hillary focused exclusively on the popular vote. This is such a stupid argument, not by you but by many in the media and part of some Democrats.

It was a mandate. It's been a mandate for the last three elections. This was the exclamation point to the absolute skull fvcking the DNC has received in the last 6 years. It equates to a "mandate" from the American people. How you guys don't see this is beyond my comprehension. 2018 is likely to further decimate the DNC as most of the Senate seats up for grabs in 18 are DNC. I've heard, at least 6 are likely to flip. If Manchin switches as well, that'll give the GOP 59 seats in the senate.
People can try to spin this last election into anything they want but the reality is, Trump winning was the moneyshot to the scene. This popular vote horse **** argument is meant to downplay the significance of Hildebeast losing and how much the American people are fed up with the brand of beer you guys are pushing. For 8 years you've put the desires of special needs above the financial needs of the country. When called on it, we were shouted down as racists, bigots, sexists, islamophobes, homophobes, etc. No, compared to most of you morons, we're economics professors.
But how many of the "votes" in CA and NY were from illegals?Well, it does actually mean that more Americans voted for Hillary than Trump, as far as who gets sworn in - it means jack, but I wouldn't say it means nothing.
The GOP generally does fairly well in mid-term elections, but a lot will depend on the direction the country goes over the next 2 years. If Trump is unpopular or seen as leading us in the wrong direction, the Dems will gain ground without any problems. I'm not going to predict anything right now though. Let him get in office, and we'll see how he does.It was a mandate. It's been a mandate for the last three elections. The Republicans trotted out a monkey farting on a snare drum screaming racism and grabbing pussies and still won. That is how disconnected the the left is from the rest of the country right now. So all of you morons(not you Mule) bashing Trump and calling the GOP electorate out, keep in mind, you all put up the candidate that lost to him. Some of you all were very much a fan and claimed what great candidate she was and how Presidential she was. You all couldn't and haven't been able to recognize the **** you're shoveling isn't being accepted. The GOP generally does fairly well in mid-term elections, but a lot will depend on the direction the country goes over the next 2 years. I'm not taking too much from the 2016 election. I think some unpopular facets of ACA are part of the reason the Dems didn't gain as much as some predicted. I also think that Hillary was a flawed candidate who was ripe for the picking. She's polarizing, had multiple scandals going on, and she's not a person who inspires large groups of folks. She could have overcome the first couple of problems if she was a better politician - like her husband for example.
I don't think the Republican Party "trotted out" Trump. He trotted himself out and beat the 17 trotters. As I posted yesterday, both parties suffered from " paradigm paralysis".The Republicans trotted out a monkey farting on a snare drum screaming racism and grabbing pussies and still won. Enjoy the mandate the GOP received and the absolute dismantling of the house of cards that was built the last 8 years. The good thing about Presidential overreach is that it can be undone with the stroke of a pen as well.

The last 6, and Obama used executive orders and a slew of other initiatives to completely bypass it. Don't try to pretend for a even a second that the GOP has been able to push its policies with him in the White House. That would just be completely dishonest of you.Wasn't the GOP in power most of the last 8 years?

He operated exactly like Bush did which was widely criticized by the left during Bush's years. Personally, I didn't like either of them.I'm not trying to ACT LIKE anything. I'm just saying, checks and balances. Don't try to act like Obama operated like a tyrant either

Please don't get defensive.... but who do or did you like. I doubt there has ever been a POTUS that someone never had a problem with.He operated exactly like Bush did which was widely criticized by the left during Bush's years. Personally, I didn't like either of them.
Exactly. Some people pretend to act smart being a Monday Morning QB with stupid statements. Please don't get defensive.... but who do or did you like. I doubt there has ever been a POTUS that someone never had a problem with.
