Maxey and Hagans with Quick and Baker as back ups is one of the 5 best back courts in cbb. Maxey will be the leading scorer on the team and I think it will be around 17-18 pts as that kid like Herro is a bucket.

Quickley has more upside than Hagans. Quickley is a better shooter and distributor. Hagans is a better defender and slasher.

Hilarious he felt the need to post that. No one thought he was going anywhere.
Lots of people feared he'd transfer. I'm very happy to be able to celebrate with other real Kentucky fans getting a 5-star guard who showed nice flashes of talent back for a second year. It's great he posted that to give us a moment to be thankful to have him back.

Thanks for coming back but there was never any question unless he was a potential transfer ....

At one point, we were speculating about Maxey reclassifying and having Hagans, Quickley, and Maxey all together last year. Who could have predicted we'd have all three of them a year older and more experienced?

Ha. wild stuff. Our backcourt should be a consistent top5 all season. Maybe at times it's the best, maybe someone else pushes up to the top.. but they be an elite crew all year.

If Hagans gets his defensive mojoback.. watch out. I still have NO IDEA where that went..

Absolutely a good sign to see, but also keep in mind the Green situation. Came back forna 2nd year, we have a loaded squad thinking hell be leadership, then leaves early into season due to playing time. If we get Herro or Johnson back, Quickley will go back to being a back up and as long as he's cool with that, we should be fine. He won't start over Hagans or Maxey, but as a hopeful returning junior hed be the 99% shoe-in starter that year. That's assuming a lot, I know. Green really threw a rench in my comfort level with returning 5 star players.

Quickley has a much different swagger about him than green did though. His freshman year, Green had so many “me first” moments where he needed to be in the spotlight, while quickley has taken his backseat roll extremely well and hasn’t shown a single sign of the me first mentality

UK is pretty set at every spot except the 5. Next year's Final Four run probably comes down to what EJ and Nick do this summer as far as improvement.

Their role on the team next year will be the biggest difference.

If you think about it we were pretty much "set" at every spot this year. You need everyone to improve and learn to play as a team over the course of the season imo, experience adversity and overcome it together, so they can have the skills and confidence in each other to peak at the right time.

Anxiously waiting for confirmation that EJ (I'm like 95% sure) and Nick (maybe 65%?) will be returning.

We might have two sophomore guards, a redshirt sophomore guard, a sophomore forward, junior center, and grad transfer forward/center.

I think it's transfer or nothing for Richards and EJ. They aren't on any mock drafts, something even Hagans was on sporadically.

I would be dumbfounded if they did anything but return, with the minutes they will have at the 4 and 5.

But Dante and the small possibility of Hurt/McDaniels could change things.

That's why I say 95% for EJ. But for no real reason except that he played 12 mpg as a sophomore, probably won't be a starter next year, and that we have about 1 transfer a year, I'm concerned we could lose Nick.

he could be the guy that gives our teams some consistency for several years. solid player. great kid. athletic , will play good defense. make smart plays. wont be a star, but a great option off the bench.

i was never in love with green. dont like shorter guards. if you are going to that limited size wise you better be built like a bulldog or score it like a flamethrower. green wasnt and isnt any of those.

100%. Also if you are going to be small, better be quick/fast and have ability to defend and at least set up teammates. Things were so bad with him, he couldn't even pass the ball at the end of his time at UK. Going to UW is giving up. He'll play zone, and never get challenged to improve-like all Syracuse small guards. Know it's UW, but Hopkins is Cuse through and through.

We're going to need two guys from the EJ/Nick/Brooks/IQ conglomerate to give us 8 to 10 points/game.

Out of those, I could see any of them getting there, most likely would be IQ and Brooks. The reason I say Brooks is because he is high energy and with our focus on rebounding, he will get a lot of cleanup points. Not necessarily because he is polished offensively as much as I believe he will get dirty work points.

I worry about having consistent low post scoring next year. History suggests we are going to shoot poorly in the Elite Eight round and need some low post scoring to supplement that. I think Siesta and EJ can provide that but it looks like the team has everything else.

Dayum dude, that is butchered for sure...[laughing] No oblay...

Let’s wait a bit before anointing Maxey. Every year people do this and almost every year the player doesn’t live up to it early or not at all in year one (Harrison, Teague, Hagans, Quickly, Briscoe, ). The ones that do hit the ground running are always elite at something or just elite (Wall, Fox, Murray ). Maxey like all the other guards, will have a adjustment period. I think he eventually hits his stride but will hit some bumps and hopefully the same people who put up high expectations for him don’t do their usual over reaction when he doesn’t meet them right away

Every player has an adjustment period, it doesn't mean that the player shouldn't be lauded as a great player coming in. Maxey can just flat out score the ball, that's where the excitement is coming from and there is nothing wrong with expressing that, he'll more than likely be the leading scorer on next year's team.

At least two, probably three with Baker, returning guards is a big deal.

You never know but I don't really get the Baker transfer thing other than he is from California. I don't see sitting out another year.

Considering he missed the preseason and some games too after not playing at all, no practice, no playground essentially a whole year before that I think he contributed admirably and had as much of a role as the situation allowed.

Yes, it is a very big deal.

Guards with some seasoning and ability is pretty big jumping off point material to go in with.

Sophomore and Junior returning bigs.
Add a grad transfer up front that can hit from outside.
Infuse with some freshman talent and something might be simmering up more than some want to accept the possibility of.

Of course having KJ and/or Herro back as well would be phenomenal but even without either we are in many ways better off than usual by a good amount. We could even make an at least plausibly functional non freshman line up including a 6th man.

Since some people were listing him as a possible transfer in a thread last week . I guess this puts it to rest .

I might be in the minority here, but I actually like IM’s game. I think he’s really solid in a lot of areas. I also think he’s going to keep improving.

I’m thrilled he’s not transferring.

Tremendous news! IQ was never halfway out the door like Quade, so not a fair comparison. We are absolutely loaded at guard for next year

Quickley can play point guard at the high D1 level, plays defense, and isn't a turnover waiting to happen.

There is very little comparison at all.

So glad Quickley is returning.

Hagans, Maxey, and Quickley will be one of the best backcourt rotations in college next year.

I just wonder where the minutes will come from for Baker? I really hope he comes back, but it's going to be tough to get minutes for him.

Terrible news. It is so much more difficult to win a national title with experienced guards who can defend and shoot.

Sarcasm off. Thanks, IQ for coming back too!

Really glad to see this. Quickley surpassed Hagans in my opinion. Going to be some big time motivation to get better this off season for all the guards. I feel good about next season.

If Quickley continues to improve, we might see a lot of three guard action with Hagans, Quickley, and Maxey on the floor together.
