In addition kids will be cutting commercials for every local car dealer, hardware store and super market.
"Hi I'm Geo Baker. When my team needs to score I drive to the basket. When I need a new car I drive over to the guys I trust at Malouf Ford."

So what? If Malouf Ford wants to pay a couple pharmacy majors they can do that right now. Geo should be able to make as much money from endorsements as companies are willing to pay him. All athletes should. No issue with it, as it already happens at the big schools anyway under the table. Nobody is paying 3 stars millions of dollars, and the 5 stars are the outliers to begin with. Looks at the 5 star kids in the G league. Are they getting major endorsements now? I couldn't pick them out of a lineup.

My guy, you are acting as if this isn't happening behind closed doors with the current system. Steve and staff know exactly what they are going up against when a kid has one of these blue bloods on their list, as does Greg. Go pull Bannon out of an Irish pub in Mercer county and ask him how things went down with Jay Williams. Lance Thomas is another one. Watch 'The Scheme' on Showtime for a peek behind the curtain. Why not let this all happen out in the open? The top kids will either go G League or continue to go to blue bloods. Say what you want about the G league, but elite kids are looking at it as the #1 option now, and that will continue especially as the OTE for HS kids begins to bring in more of these elites. Emoni Bates and Mikey Williams will never step on the NCAA hardwood. Interesting that when the top 4 kids go G League this year both Kentucky & Duke quickly fall back to the pack. I digress...most of these kids are micro-influencers at best. There will be some smaller brands or local brands that leverage their reach on campus and within university communities. The kids will be able to speak at camps, run clinics and train local kids in driveways for some extra cash and be able to promote that service using their likeness. Great for hoops and football, really great for lax players, soccer players etc. Name & Likeness should be basic human rights. Geo and crew aren't asking for a slice of the $1B/year from CBS or a take of the gate at the RAC. If a booster down in Kentucky wants to pay each kid $100K a pop, by all means go for it. At least we now know exactly what we are up against. We operate a high major athletic department in the most densely populated state in proximity to one of the world's most wealthy cities. Time to try to innovate and figure out how we make that a competitive advantage as the landscape shifts. The entire NCAA model is about to implode and 1 super conference is in the not too distant future. Making the argument that RU should be against it because our boosters don't want to go as deep in the pocket as others isn't a great reason why we should deny these kids a basic right that pretty much every one else enjoys. Being against this is like Grunniger being against joining the Big East back in the day as it would upset what we have all been accustomed to. It's time to evolve. The game has changed, these kids have changed and are way more educated. Get on board or get left behind...again.
The G league is literally of zero concern to the ncaa. Mikey williams is also completely overrated and a kid that will never touch nba hardwood, hed be smart to start making money this nanosecond and say **** the ncaa. College ball is soooo much better without one and dones

I don’t see it as unreasonable that he could make $150-200 an hour for participation in kids basketball clinics. I honestly do think being able to say “camp with basketball star Geo Baker” would add $15-20 to the daily price tag these places could charge so for a group of 30-50 kids in an hour session his cut being $150-200 would be what you’d expect. Factoring in the whole summer - a kid like him could easily make 20k a year on camps alone. Not bad for a college kid.
I think you are over estimating what he would command for any length of time. If Baker is playing in the NBA then yes his monetary value increases (as a CBA / Euro /Asia player ) nope sorry maybe a local town clinic for that team but visions of lucrative promotional deals ? Outside of Rutgers most will not remember Baker as some great MBB .

Someone in another thread put it nicely.

Old adults with money might exploit the system so let’s just exploit the players. Makes no sense.

You guys sneezing at $20K for a 22 year old kid is a bit ridiculous. You all know how much better off a 22 year old would be puttting $20K away in retirement/investment. It would change their life.

You snowflakes are so triggered by these kids having a voice. It’s embarrassing how insecure you are that you require feeling superior to be necessary to get through your lives. Grow up.
So you want the blue bloods to be able to legally provide their players with 30k lunches. Explain how we could ever hope to compete with that?

Why the F do our guys deserve 20k when a kid from fairleigh dickinson or rutgers newark would literally kill to be in Geo's position, minus all the perks our players already receive, just to play in the ncaa tournament?

For the same reason you deserve your salary?

Why do you deserve your salary?
Because I went out and got a job. Geo could have done just that playing overseas before this season. Nobody forced him to come back. He chose exposure over a salary and it was a conscious decision.
