My guy, you are acting as if this isn't happening behind closed doors with the current system. Steve and staff know exactly what they are going up against when a kid has one of these blue bloods on their list, as does Greg. Go pull Bannon out of an Irish pub in Mercer county and ask him how things went down with Jay Williams. Lance Thomas is another one. Watch 'The Scheme' on Showtime for a peek behind the curtain. Why not let this all happen out in the open? The top kids will either go G League or continue to go to blue bloods. Say what you want about the G league, but elite kids are looking at it as the #1 option now, and that will continue especially as the OTE for HS kids begins to bring in more of these elites. Emoni Bates and Mikey Williams will never step on the NCAA hardwood. Interesting that when the top 4 kids go G League this year both Kentucky & Duke quickly fall back to the pack. I digress...most of these kids are micro-influencers at best. There will be some smaller brands or local brands that leverage their reach on campus and within university communities. The kids will be able to speak at camps, run clinics and train local kids in driveways for some extra cash and be able to promote that service using their likeness. Great for hoops and football, really great for lax players, soccer players etc. Name & Likeness should be basic human rights. Geo and crew aren't asking for a slice of the $1B/year from CBS or a take of the gate at the RAC. If a booster down in Kentucky wants to pay each kid $100K a pop, by all means go for it. At least we now know exactly what we are up against. We operate a high major athletic department in the most densely populated state in proximity to one of the world's most wealthy cities. Time to try to innovate and figure out how we make that a competitive advantage as the landscape shifts. The entire NCAA model is about to implode and 1 super conference is in the not too distant future. Making the argument that RU should be against it because our boosters don't want to go as deep in the pocket as others isn't a great reason why we should deny these kids a basic right that pretty much every one else enjoys. Being against this is like Grunniger being against joining the Big East back in the day as it would upset what we have all been accustomed to. It's time to evolve. The game has changed, these kids have changed and are way more educated. Get on board or get left behind...again.
