There was no structural damage.

And the inconsistencies in his play early, were much more due to not yet being comfortable in the offense

Then how about "recovering Grono." Even after structural damage is repaired it can take a long time to build strength and flexibility through rehab. His shoulder probably wasn't 100% when the season started.

Yes, "recovering Grono" would be more accurate.

But I'm guessing it didn't take too long for the shoulder to feel close to 90%.

But again, the point here is the two different Grono's had much more to do with getting more comfortable in the offense, than more comfortable in the shoulder.

Again, TL mentioned Mark being a lot more comfortable in the offense late in the season.

And the throws Mark was missing early in the season were much more due to him not processing well enough to have his feet timed up, causing poor mechanics, than due to a poor shoulder

I always find it amusing how often the QB is criticized for missing "wide open" receivers. I wonder how many typing these responses have ever had four to five 6'5 280 men bearing down on you when you are trying to see the field? Your line of sight is just a bit more impaired than when you are sitting with a cold beer in your hand. Sometimes that open man just can't be seen. I thought Brown played just fine, especially when he had a little time.

Gronowski had next-to-zero arm talent. He certainly wouldn't be able to chuck it down field to a speedy Diaz, the only receiver doing anything currently. We paid Diaz a good pile of money to join us and you've managed to come up with this thread title. Stupid. Do you know we had one of the least productive passing offenses in the country in 2025 with MG?

If Mark was our QB in 2026, it'd mean just another season where Iowa's offense had nothing beyond a ground game.

Gronowski has enough "arm talent" to still be on a practice squad as an NFL rookie. While maybe not elite, it certainly was enough to throw the ball downfield when he had the time to do so.

closer to 50-60, with some of the elite QBs like Mahomes and Jackson being 25% throws to second reads, and hovering around 10% for check downs. The others are scrambling. I am actually surprised by this given the speed/blitzing in the NFL vs college. It is a much slower game for NCAA qbs.

JFC. Grono couldn’t throw the ball 10 yards down the field for the 1st half of the season. Brown already looks better throwing the ball than Grono did in any game except the bowl game. He was certainly a gamer, a really good runner and leader but he was a terrible passer almost the entire season. And yes, I know he was hurt. Or actually recovering.
