Update:

After Cigna rejected my initial cat-scan because it was scheduled to be done at a hospital, the ENT's office was able to get it rescheduled locally and Cigna accepted. Today I went in for the cat-scan. That part's out of the way, and for that I'm grateful. I was disappointed that the facility wanted me to pay upfront for the procedure. I always thought you're supposed to pay a co-pay, and then get billed for the rest. Now that it's done, I'm nervous about what it's going to reveal. I know there's a mass of some sort back there. I can press on that area with my finger and it feels different than the surrounding gum. Surely if it were cancer I'd know by now?
Hoping for the best of news for you. The waiting to get results is hard.

At the ENT today. For a month I've had an ulcerated throat/tonsil area. Normally I get mouth sores, but they come and go. This one has persisted for a month. The ENT is saying there appears to be a mass. He's going to do a biopsy and order a cat-scan. He thinks it could be leftover tonsil tissue from a tonsillectomy 8 years ago, or maybe a mass. For about a month I've been constantly taking throat sprays , Tylenol and Ibuprofen. I hope that I'm going to be okay. I don't smoke and rarely drink. 😢
Good luck. My prayers are with you.

@NociHTTP sorry I’m just now seeing any of this. Was avoiding screens hard for a while (eyestrain).

I will be praying for you and your husband!!

When you can, start taking L-lysine. Provides a big boost in raw material for your body to rebuild tissue and for some reason it’s especially effective with mouth sores. …Which tend to show up and worsen when people are under stress. I wouldn’t be surprised if your woes as a whistleblower had something to do with kicking this off, the timing at least. I’ll be praying for that situation too.

Update us when you have anything.

Mouth sores have plagued me for as long as I can remember. I think they were affecting me when I was a very young child. I'm going to give that a shot. This latest episode of ulceration in the back of the throat is THE WORST that I've ever had. Thank God they put me on an antibiotic, that allowed some repair of the tissue, but it creeps me out when I put my finger back there and there is a hole down the side of my throat, and I can feel something that .... I don't know what it is. Hopefully they'll be able to tell me more.

Tough thing to hear about. Tomorrow morning I have a CT scan on head and neck. I completed radiation and chemo December 16 and hope I have no more, however the CT will determine that for now. This all started with sore throats that I treated with Tylenol dissolve packs and Goody powders,so I know where you are coming from. I wish you the absolute best and better results than I have gotten. A positive CT scan tomorrow would really easy my mind.
Sorry I didn’t see this earlier. I hope everything went well.

I’m so sorry and I’ll be sending prayers and well wishes your way. I know how scary health and health scares can be and I don’t want anyone else feeling this worried and down. Just remember to try not and worry but instead focus on living every minute with what makes you happy

I dont understand why it takes so long to get results and know your prognosis. Just laying around day after day wondering and worrying. Prayers to you.

Yeah it is crazy. I will condense this story but my Dad was having an eye issue where the "curtains come down" over eye (google it for details if you want).

He had previous eye surgery. Goes to eye doctor, they show all clear. Recommend he goes to ER to ensure no stroke. They scanned brain and something else...all clear, quickly...send him home (schedule additional scans for week later. His arthritis Dr who received results too calls him and pleads for him to go back to hospital to be admitted (Dr had personal family loss) in order to get the other two scans done on heart.

He goes back to hospital on a Thursday night, didn't do scans until Saturday and didn't get results until Tuesday. Went home Wednesday. Everything was clear and they still don't know what happened...

Just glad he is ok (knock on wood) but he missed Easter as those second set of test took 4 days to get results on

CT Scan came back and it's "inconclusive". They want me to see another ENT as the first one is "puzzled". That means scratching their colleague's back, and more money out of my pocket. I went into Chapter 13 four years ago because of medical debt relating to the same problem :( Should they have ordered an MRI instead? I can actually reach back in the direction of where my tonsillectomy was (I think) and can press on an area that feels mushy, and evertime I press that spot pain radiates outward and up my face. Everytime I swallow (food, just general gulping) I have pulsating pain. Only when I don't swallow, and just breath (who can do that in their sleep?), there's less pain. Should they have ordered an MRI, or is it just standard and cheaper to go with a CT Scan first?

So sorry to hear this. I’ve been going through a decades long process trying to figure out an issue myself and I think focus on fixing it now. Then lawyer up and sue the **** out of anybody that didn’t do what they should have once you’re through it. The stress of second guessing it while you’re in the middle of it is too much to add to your plate. Keep your focus forward and on getting better.

Just read through this thread. Seems like quite a few people are letting you down and your current ENT is numero uno on that list.

You mentioned going to UC, so maybe you're in, or close to NKY, if so, I can recommend an ENT (Dr. Poteet) that I know is very good. He is the one that took the extra steps to help find my wife's acoustic neuroma skull based tumor, that was/is growing on her hearing and facial nerves, when multiple others had no clue.

My hope is that this is just an infection that requires the right medication to get rid of.

Hoping for the best posdible outcome.

Prayers for you and hoping they come up with something soon to take care of the problem. Prayers that it is nothing too serious that they can resolve quickly.

Continued prayers. I had my tonsils removed in my late 20s. Kept getting infections in my tonsils and surrounding areas. I remember sticking my fingers back there and feeling all sorts of weird crap. Just know it's never going to feel normal.

I don't know if it still holds true, but it used to be as long as you can pay something, then bankruptcy never enters the equation. Call them, tell them this is all I can give, and go from there. I know first hand folks who have done just that.

It’s always like that anymore, just test after test, some doctor don’t know, another thinks it’s something. More tests, send you here, send you there. It’s never ending and the bills are crazy. It cost me 4K to have a cyst lanced in the ER. Took 10 minutes and a script of antibiotics. 4 thousand dollars for that. Just insane.

That is insane. My husband has to do most of the "talking" when we go to the doctor because I'm just vocal about this stuff and it never ends well for me.

One of the things I ran into with St Elizabeth was that even when I was making payments every two weeks, because I had not "set up a payment plan" they turned my account over to collections.

Okay. That makes sense. I just want the pain to end. I've been self medicating with Prednisone for years because they won't prescribe it unless it's just for a month or so, and everytime they they take another biopsy or ram a camera down my nose into my throat it just creates more trauma that they say "should feel less pain with some ibuprofen".

My wife is the same way, she despises doctors for the most part.
