At the ENT today. For a month I've had an ulcerated throat/tonsil area. Normally I get mouth sores, but they come and go. This one has persisted for a month. The ENT is saying there appears to be a mass. He's going to do a biopsy and order a cat-scan. He thinks it could be leftover tonsil tissue from a tonsillectomy 8 years ago, or maybe a mass. For about a month I've been constantly taking throat sprays , Tylenol and Ibuprofen. I hope that I'm going to be okay. I don't smoke and rarely drink. 😢

Good luck, tonsils can regrow though. I’ll say a prayer for you.

I had the biopsy done today. I'm deathly afraid of needles and other sharp objects you might see in a doctor's office, so my husband blindfolded me. They took out I'm thinking 6-8 pieces of flesh. Very sore right now. Why they didn't give me any painkillers I don't know. Was prescribed an antibiotic. Hopefully the Ibuprofen and Tyleno will be enough. Should hear something by Monday regarding biopsy results, and will have the cat-scan next. I'm a worry-wort, and it didn't help that the ENT said "this is worrisome", but at least he was honest with me. Thank you everyone for thinking of me. Life is so short. Hubby is doing a wonderful job trying to keep my mind on other things, but I'm worried about him should something ever happen to me.

Hey NociHTTP, my thoughts and prayers are with you. And all of your BBN brothers and sisters are too. I've said this before, we may fuss and argue on here (like family does), but I speak from experience, that BBN is here for you. Just ask. Take care and try not to worry too much. I know that's easier said than done. I know, 'cause I'm a worry wart 😀. We'll keep you in our prayers and you keep us posted.

Tough thing to hear about. Tomorrow morning I have a CT scan on head and neck. I completed radiation and chemo December 16 and hope I have no more, however the CT will determine that for now. This all started with sore throats that I treated with Tylenol dissolve packs and Goody powders,so I know where you are coming from. I wish you the absolute best and better results than I have gotten. A positive CT scan tomorrow would really easy my mind.

Update:

Today I received news that I would not be terminated from my job. I "blew the whistle" on security screening procedures at my job, and was initially accused of trying to be malicious, but after an investigation they realized that was not the case.

On my health, it's good and bad. The ENT called back today and said they had received the biopsy results. "There is a lot of inflammation, but nothing cancerous in the biopsy material we took, but I am puzzled" was his exact words. He has referred me onto UC where he wants a colleague who does robotic surgery to look into this. He thinks it may have to do with the lymph nodes or a tumor, which isn't good obviously, but I think it's better news than being told "it's cancer". He has prescribed narcotics because continuously dosing on numbing throat sprays and ibuprofen/tylenol is only providing short relief. I've lost 6 pounds in the past two weeks because I'm unable to eat anything without a lot of pain if I don't go through the process of numbing myself first. Husband scheduled my CAT SCAN, and the ENT scheduled an appointment for me to see his colleague at the University of Cincinnati. I can reach back into my throat area and feel a 'lump' or puffy, sore spot where I think the tonsil used to be that was removed at UK almost ten years ago. Surgery is very likely going to be the route they take, I'm just tired of being in pain so much and so often for years.

Update:

After Cigna rejected my initial cat-scan because it was scheduled to be done at a hospital, the ENT's office was able to get it rescheduled locally and Cigna accepted. Today I went in for the cat-scan. That part's out of the way, and for that I'm grateful. I was disappointed that the facility wanted me to pay upfront for the procedure. I always thought you're supposed to pay a co-pay, and then get billed for the rest. Now that it's done, I'm nervous about what it's going to reveal. I know there's a mass of some sort back there. I can press on that area with my finger and it feels different than the surrounding gum. Surely if it were cancer I'd know by now?

Cigna is the worst. I’ve been going through my own BS with them and found a couple of articles breaking down how often they deny coverage. They are terrible. Sorry you have their additional stress to worry about.

Hoping for the best. When will you get results?
