...that the officiating is never going to be fair enough to allow UK to ever win another title.

I watch these UNC, Duke, and Kansas games, and the bias becomes bigger every year.

College basketball has become more corrupt than any major sport.

Hell, we can't get a fair whistle at home against BFE.

I guess the Duke/Portland St game last night was the final straw. That was so blatant is was an embarrassment.

Meh, the UNC-Arkansas was called ok. UNC is clearly the better team. The just kept outplaying Arkansas.

The problem is a lot of UK, like all fans, fans think that every call against them is a bad call. When do fans ever complain about a call that goes their way?

Uh, you're dead wrong. I'm not a fan that has historically complained about officiating. But, if your to obtuse not to notice what's going on now, then you're just a complete fool.

I really try to not to whine about officating and alot of times i'll see something called and say or think "yeah you know thats what happened, good call" You cant be like a Louisville fan and think that every call against us is wrong. But given that I can admit when one of our players fouls, i have the right to complain when we are blatantly getting screwed. I see it happen every year in SEC road games and when Higgins refs our tournament games. We straight up get SHAFTED.

Kentucky can't get a fair whistle at home because they play a bunch of freshmen who don't understand you can't barrel your way to the basket like you could in high school and gets called for a ton of charges.

Those are the only calls I see consistently that piss me off.

Hm, if only there was another team who had 3-4 freshman every year since 2014.. ones who barely get called for a foul.. and finishes the game anywhere between 7 to 12 less fouls on the whole.

If Duke put the Kentucky jersey on tonight, they'd have lost by 8.

Hm, if only there was another coach who had 3-4 freshman every year since 2014.. who barely got called for a foul.. and finished the game anywhere between 7 to 12 less fouls.

Recruits more guys that shoot 3s and coaches an offense centered around shooting rather than driving aimlessly at the basket which yields, on average, fewer fouls.

But I get it.

I don't believe there's any widespread conspiracy against UK, and there's no conspiracy in favor of other prominent teams. There just isn't. But basketball officiating is like anything else, there are good ones and bad ones, honest and less than honest. Is it possible there is an individual referree that dislikes Kentucky or more likely Cal? Of course. Might such a person let those sentiments impact his work? Of course. Contrary to what some evidently think, it only takes a handful of calls to meaningfully influence the outcome of a game - you don't need to go way out of your way to help determine who wins and who loses. Which is also why it's impossible to catch, or to prove. A loose ball foul here and there, a charge vs a block, all of them being judgment calls and therefore above scrutiny - that's all you need.

I vividly recall Phil Martelli's statement in the 30 for 30 on Cal, talking about the technical called on Calipari from the opposite corner of the gym at a critical time in the UMass v UK game in the '92 tournament. "That was personal" he said. For all those who deny personal feelings ever influence a ref or impact a game, what did he mean?

Hm, if only there was a current season of said team, where we could see many of the recruits aren't that good of 3pt shooters. Maybe a team that shot less than 20%, not even an hour ago..

Trust me, there's a conspiracy against us.

The last 2 games Duke has shot 78 free throws to the opponents 33. Bagley alone has shot almost that many. If anyone thinks a result in this PK80 tournament ends up anything but UNC winning one side of the bracket and Duke winning the other you not tuned in to what a sham college basketball has become the last few years. Florida/Gonzaga or Michigan State will have to shoot 70% to beat either. It's sickening.

Totally agree.

Ive done multi sport officiating up to the small college level. Bias exists. Egos exist. Dislike of coaches exist. Officials getting their rocks off at certain coaches/teams expense...exist. Coaches just like officials have reputations. Even myself at times have been very tempted to completely f a team because of a coach. Its only human nature and many times its not kept in check because the pay is low and the accountability is even lower.

Throw in the money involved in college bball and theres no way things arent being manipulated to a degree. To what degree, who knows.

I always felt like the 2012 team was ref proof. They were just too good. Maybe the only way we can win one is to just be THAT MUCH better than everyone else.

Well, if you truly feel that games are pre-determined by the refs/NCAA/Vegas/ESPN/etc., then why the hell do you watch the games? Either UK's going to win because the refs/NCAA/Vegas/ESPN/etc. want them to win or they're going to lose because the refs/NCAA/Vega/ESPN/etc. want them to lose.

One other question. Why, if there is a grand conspiracy against us, would they script us to win so many damn games? Why not script us to lose 10+ games every year?

It's been going on for years with the teams out of Carolina, especially the one in durham. Last year was really bad in the NCAA tourney in favor of UNC.
I do believe these refs totally affect the outcome of games when they WANT Higgins of course is a sham of a ref. The whistles are so in favor of them that the phonies in durham expect it.
Now, there will be some that will come on here and rattle off foul totals, etc. It's when the calls are made and on who. These guys know how to make it look even when they KNOW a call they made influenced the game. They will even it out later to make the totals not look so lopsided in critical games.
I no longer believe certain games are on the up and up. Especially in the tourney.

But I get it.

You would think we'd shoot more free throws as well though. Duke is a bunch of 3 chuckers typically. Cal preaches pounding the ball. But here we are watching Duke shooting upwards of 40 free throws in their last two games, both close games in which they needed them to win.

not watching anymore other than UK. It’s predictable what’s going to happen. imo college hoops officiating is most corrupt of any sport and rarely held to any accountability. It’s disgusting what these fools continue to do. It’s rigged big time! The NCAA is a shame bc of uncheat i mean what’s left??

Knowing it’s rigged seems like there would be a good way to make some profit from it. Of course you wouldn’t have to watch though.

After watching the zebras bail Duke out at the end of regulation with their non call of the Texas big man who got hacked going up for a shot under the basket. I knew the fix was on. It is all staged. We already know who is going to win. These story lines are worse than the WWE. At least the WWE doesn't hide the fact that they're fake and the story lines are made up.

Plus, Cal could play Vince McMahon as he would be perfect in that role.

I don't think refs cheat in general, I honestly don't but Higgins absolutely cheated in that game last year. I will believe that until the day I die and I can't think of one other instance where I feel that way.

These threads make our fanbase look really dumb.
We get a bad whistle some games no doubt but these things only pop up when Duke, KU or UNC win a close game.

Mostly when Duke is involved,it has risen to joke level,if it wasn't so blatently unfair to other teams it would be comical.

At this point, we just have to weather out the last few years of K's tenure. Take solace in the fact that he's at the end of his career and he'll start slipping.
