....our boy Joe Lunardi projects us first 4 out...4th in a really solid league...and has Texas with its' 5-8 record in an average league in....what am I missing? Are ALL of our problems tied to a slow start?

I think they are just trolling the pants off us at this point. Still have 3 games and a tourney ahead of us that can change the outlook so I wouldn’t care too much about what Joe has to say at this point old boy.

On XM84 yesterday, someone was talking about how this year the Big 12 is the best it has ever been top to bottom, with two dominant teams and the rest of the teams being very good.

Must all come down to out of conference schedule for SOS and teams in your conference not playing any 300+RPI teams.
Based on Dirk's article, the B1G must have had quite a few teams play a couple 300+RPI's in their out of conference schedule, while the Big 12 and ACC must not have played a single one.

by conference RPIs the BIG12 is 1st and the BIG is 6th --- The BIG12 at present is the best conference and the BIG is the worst of the major conferences according to RPI rankings (admittedly flawed)

not sure how you are categorizing the BIG12 as average and the BIG as solid -- maybe historically - but not this year

Well, because I WANT to categorize them that way...I know from the eye test:
KSU lost to Tulsa
KU stole a win from us...and they could win their league.
Just because everyone in that league can beat each other does not mean they are great...just comparable
Bruce Weber has a team in 4th place...enough said.

Not arguing, you can categorize them anyway you wish... I am just stating how the RPI and therefore the selection committee is categorizing them which is probably a bit more relevant - by that measure the BIG lags quite a bit behind the BIG12 .. I don’t think Texas gets in .. their rpi right now is about the same as ours (a bit worse)... they have more losses but their strength of schedule is ranked 17th ... we have fewer losses but our SOS is 96th

I'm not sure comparing the coaching resumes of each leagues 4th place team is going to be favorable

if we win out and finish 4th in the league I think we get in

I agree! Great point! The Big 12 does this every year and then when they get in the tournament they flop. I had to get on the local radio clowns 1410 am Wichita. They said Nebraska had fallen off. We are on a six game win streak. Big 12 is a joke of a conference.

Is there a Big 12 team you'd put in your final 4 bracket? Is there an SEC team you'd put in your final 4 bracket? Solid conferences but I'd say no to both. Neither has a heavy hitter. The teams IMO that should be working there way out are Florida and UK but both will get in because of their school's history.

The 2 things going against NU is SOS and school's history. Anyone who knows basketball, knows Huskers are a really good team and have been since December. As an awful Jaysker (sorry I love both), I know NU is a much better basketball team right now then Creighton, without a doubt. Nu is better than at least 35 teams that will make the dance and that's sad.

I sat 4th row at WSU last night and watched two teams that I think would kick most teams in the rear....Temple has defeated both Auburn and Clemson, and yet sits 6th in the American. IF the Huskers get in, I'd much rather play a Big 12 school than an American team.

Here is the thing RPI means a lot. They will also add in the eye test and if we go undefeated into the tournament we will have a strong eye test. And probably get in because of that. However you can't blame teams in other conferences who say hey.......yea we have a worst record than them.......but look at who we have played and who some of the teams we have beaten are. Other than Michigan I don't think we have beaten a single team that is going to the dance.

Its a tough one this year so we just need to keep winning. I think we are in with 23 wins. They will give us a benefit of a doubt based on our finish.

who has a better resumes

Team A........................................................Team B

Rec 15-11 ..........................................................20-8
RPI .. 38 ..............................................................52
SOS .. 14...............................................................93
out of conf SOS .. 12..........................................255

vs 1-25 RPI.. 3-5 ......................................................... 0-5
vs 26-50.. 0-0...........................................................1-0
vs 51-100.. 4-2 ...........................................................2-3

pretty close -- the only real advantage team B has is overall record

Texas lost at home to Michigan by 7. NU beat MU at home by 20. Texas is 4-6 in the last 10. Somehow TX is last four in and Baylor is first four out, even though Baylor is 2-0 against TX. Is Joe getting envelopes of cash from Shaka?

Team B also does not have 4 losses to 100+ RPI teams.

correct ... good points .... I would hope we get in based on how we are finishing

we have to rack up wins .... our SOS of schedule and lack of quality wins are killing us .... we have to get a quality win in the tourney and need to finish the year at least 24-9

I know we all love to mock Lunardi and others when we don’t like what they say, but in general he and others like him have a pretty good sense of how the committee puts together the bracket. They get pretty close to picking the right 68 teams - so what they write has value in this discussion.

The scenario for NU is simple if they make it out of the quarterfinals in the B1G tournament. THey’re in. If the win the next 3 but lose in their only B1G tournament game, we’re holding our breath (for a long time, since the league tournament early this year). For any game they lose of the next 3, that’s one more required win in the league tournament just to get back on the bubble.

Personally, I LOVE LUNARDI...I think he DOES have a pulse of what is happening...I think it is a skewed system
