My brain is full to the hat brim with news about flags, diseases, riots, masks, non-essential businesses, being offended by inanimate objects, de-funding police, Dan Wolken, the SEC, the NCAA, partisan politics, eliminating college cheers, changing band names, being offended by syrup and rice, Congress, the MS Legislature, etc, etc, etc, etc. I'm eliminating as many sources of these items and those like them as I can in social media, network news, bookmarks, and now sports message boards, and going to re-charge my batteries for awhile. I'm going to focus on family, my house and property, work, and hobbies. If things have calmed down I'll give it another shot in late August assuming we have a football season. Till then, peace, and stay safe and healthy everybody.......

I get what you're saying and it does make sense to me - no judgment. I will only add, I do believe it's important for us to remember many of our brothers and sisters do not have the opportunity (or privilege, or whatever you want to call it) to check out from many (obviously not all) of the things you list.

Be well.

+1. I did the same in mid-March and started checking back in about late-April. I cleared my bookmarks, cut a bunch of podcasts, deleted Twitter, etc. Was nice. When I came back, I realized I didn't need a lot of stuff I was using to entertain myself, for example Reddit. Will likely unplugg in July until early August.

I agree. I’m ready for all this stuff to be behind us. I’ve had enough. Make whatever changes are necessary and let’s move on.

Yep, the only thing left to make 2020 a total disaster is if college football is cancelled entirely. I guess then at least Fauci would be happy.

I deleted my facebook app recently. That has eliminated a major distraction for me. I didn't even post on there, but just mindlessly scrolling during the day could cause me to focus on the crap I'd see there instead of work / real life. Still check it on my computer at home few times a week because I've got a handful of groups associated with my hobbies - but that's all I use it for now. Same thing with reddit - don't look at the popular or new sections. Just have a few subs I keep up with. SPS is the only message board I read so don't plan on quitting it - but do look forward to the day when its mostly sports discussions again. Don't do any other social media other than scroll through instagram maybe once every 1-2 days to get my meme fix.

Maybe something good will come out of 2020 after all. Eliminating a lot of worthless crap from our lives.

Facebook has been atrocious for the last 2-3 months. Covid19, Trump this, Trump that, BLM... I don't care what side you're on. It's like that thing take the most idiotic 5% from all sides of every issue and throws them into an unending cage match that we all have to watch every time we log in. Oh, you don't fully agree with my point of view? Let me post a new video/article/random *** blog every 30 seconds, imply that you're a 17ing moron for not agreeing with me, and then I'm sure you'll come around...

I've had to quit it too

I quit watching the national news soon after Trump was elected. If my wife turns on The Today Show, I’ll get up and leave the room. I don’t need propaganda in my life. It’s not just NBC, it’s CNN, FOX and all of them. God I miss Walter Cronkite, he gave you the news and let you form your own opinions. Dan Rather was the first national news guy that I noticed who swapped from news to propaganda. I’ll watch the local news a couple of times per week just to keep apprised of the weather and the local stuff but that’s about it. I check Twitter about once a day but the only people that I follow are writers associated with State or the local news and weather guys. I’m on FB but I’ve only accepted about a dozen friend request total and regret a few of those. I mainly stay on it because of a couple of groups associated with my hobbies. I’m over all this crap. The less I know the better my life is.

I hear ya. It's tough these days to consume any media from any source without getting emotional angles. And, it just seeps in from so many different sources. TV, radio, phone, newspaper, regular internet, etc. On a fairly regular basis, I will be fully out of cell service for 3+ days, and its amazing how I don't even think about picking it up. It's not like I reach for my phone then think "ah, thats right, i don't have service. oh well". Once I know I won't have service for the next while, I don't even consider it. Thats encouraging, I guess.

I retired the end of March, yea great timing. I spent 35 years tied to a phone, before the age of cell phones I wore a holster with this big *** coordless phone and we had bases located through the building so customers could get me immediately. After 2 1/2 months I’ll sometimes go for 2-3 days without ever taking my phone off the charger. I might look at it once a day to see if I’ve missed a call to text or I might not. If you need me immediately you better be prepared to drive.

Social media is a complete and total cesspool right now. Nothing but hate and violence being spread by both sides. This is not what a civilized society is supposed to do, but here we are.

Twitter is the worst I think. Used to be my favorite to get a quick read on national news and sports news of the day. Now it’s 99% people hating other people it seems.

Totally understand. I've basically quit watching the news for the same reasons. Hardly ever turn on any sports channels. I'm sick of it all too.

Can't blame anyone for being tired of it. But we need people out here on the front lines. Remember we are all in this together.

I somewhat disagree about Cronkite. He had a liberal bias also about him, but certainly not to the extent that we see on today's national news with NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, and MSNBC. Fox has a conservative slant most of the time, but they seem to be knocking themselves out lately to prove they are not all entirely conservative.

The worst thing about no sports is it magnifies all of the politics. And even worse it feels like the politics want sports eliminated until COVID doesn't exist anymore. It's frustrating to me.

A lot are tired of it all

Focus on the people in YOUR life and the tasks in YOUR world.

The rest will frustrate you if you allow it.

Sports was something that brought us all together, and, now that it's gone, the cracks are showing. People really hate each other in this country.

The news ended CNN with going 24 hours a day. After that, it was a ratings game for them all. They had to find the biggest, baddest, and craziest story to lead with. Then they that made up their minds that it was their responsibility to educate us all about just how stupid we were to not follow along with their heavenly guidance in our past election, or think like they and the leftists do.

There is a difference between a leftist and a liberal. I expect things to get crazier and crazier is November approaches. I can't even imagine what it will be like when Trump defeats Biden. It's even sadder to realize that this is the best that the Republican and Democrat party can come up with for president.

I have empathy. Probably more than you.

It doesn’t change the fact that being a victim is a tough way to go through life.
