I see that Illinois just got a commit from former Nebraska commit Marquez Beason and have several crystal ball predications for Isaiah Williams. Beason is a high 4-star out of Texas and Williams is a 5-star out of St. Louis. What in the world would attract these kids to Illinois?

Probably Lovie Smith, if I had to guess.

They'll still get walloped in the B1G and the season has a way of changing things.

They picked up Calvin Avery in the 2018 class who is Beason's former teammate. These kids won't stay committed there after Lovie is fired following the 2018 season.

Williams high school coach was just hired by Illinois that is the reason for the cb picks for him.

I would definitely keep recruiting these kids. Lovie is 2-16 in the B1G over his first two years and another O-fer in conference may be the end of it for him.

the kid from texas had his teammate sign with illinois last year. he was also a 4star. with isaiah williams illnois hired his high school coach. that high school has a lot of talent. isaiah williams is listed as an athlete but everyone is recruiting him as a wr. illinois is telling him he can play qb

It’s interesting that Illinois has never gotten the traction that Ohio State and Michigan were able to maintain over the decades. Plenty of players in the state and close enough to other talent rich places. Just never had “that” coach/staff to make them a powerhouse decade in and out.

See when programs are down, like really down, they can Sell/offer hope. Maybe that is immediate playing time, maybe that is the idea that they are the recruit that will turn things around, or big man on campus, but it gives them something to sell. Of course it is a giant facade and it quickly gets discovered a year or two.later for most programs as they take a slight step forward, however Illinois can continuly offer "playing time" and the possibility of being "the guy" because they are sooooooo bad.

Do you know, did we offer him as a WR or QB? Looks like an amazing athlete. Also looks like passing on Avery was a HUGE mistake, literally and figuratively.
