I'd rather pee on an electric fence than make posts like this, but sometimes you've just got to. We have had to pause installs of new Skycams due to funding. We started this almost two years after almost a year of planning and having doors slammed in our face told we could never make ot happen. Now here we are with 37 cameras across the state.
We have secured locations for several other locations, but currently just don't have the funding to put them up. The last couple of months have been extraordinarily unkind in the lightning strike department and we're in the process of having to replace some cameras.
In these almost two years, our cameras have served us well. They have detected 4 tornadoes...3 of which were from storms not warned at the time. The one below from our Rolling Fork camera was seen live by the NWS as it formed. Instant verification that a warning needed to be issued. They have also been used in drought times monitoring for wildfires and are viewed by the MS Forestry Commission. This past winter with the ice storm the NWS used them to estimate ice accumulation and gather damage reports.
