Here's the deal, when an official steps in to break up the "coffee break" and players continue to discuss the previous play, technicals are a way to get employees back to work.

Murray, Ulis and Poythress should now understand that....
Except that's not the deal. I've been an official and part of the job is to exercise good judgment and reasonable restraint. I never heard or saw an official give a tech for just trying to break up a "coffee break" and get back to work. This is even more the case given this game situation...game over but for the score, less than two minutes, no scuffles or fights, etc. There was never anything in the rulebook that talked about this.

I don't know what was said. But I can assure you that tech had nothing to do with breaking up a party. That would only ever happen if players were flatly refusing to move along after a reasonable amount of time. No, this was directed right at Murray for some perceived act or magic word the ref claims to have observed.

Where did you ref?

I refereed KHSAA and OVC back in the day when Bernie was around.

I really didn't care for the way that the ref was putting his hands on Murray. If it was the other way around, people would be screaming that a player assaulted a ref.

Just poor form by that ref all the way around.

Zero excuse for calling a T on that, as pointed out by the color guy on TV.

Probably best that guy doesn't call UK games this year, as he obviously has a chip on his shoulder for some reason.
