Brittney Griner made a direct appeal to President Joe Biden for her freedom Monday in a letter passed on through her representatives, writing, "I'm terrified I might be here forever."

“As I sit here in a Russian prison, alone with my thoughts and without the protection of my wife, family, friends, Olympic jersey, or any accomplishments, I’m terrified I might be here forever,” she wrote in a handwritten letter released by her representatives.

How ironic seeing how she used her platform in the WNBA to rebuke American patriotism....she refuses to stand for the National Anthem among other rebukes.

If in fact President Biden is able to secure Ms. Briner’s release (which is highly unlikely) he should offer a conditional agreement.
The president will be more than happy to secure her release from the Russian prison provided she promise to stand for the Star-Spangled Banner.

Freedom of speech isn't big with conservatives. Too bad you aren't there with her.

I think they should play the Star Spangled Banner every morning in her cell while she is there!

I'm guessing it's propaganda and likely not completely her work.

It wasn't released without a KGB review that's for sure.

No matter, she is American, one of our own, held for political purposes, and we need to get her and the others released.

I agree with your last paragraph.

As for the letter. I am a cynical thinker. I wouldn't be shocked if she didn't write it at all and it is just a pr stunt by the white house to keep the left base focused with a fervent hate for Putin. They need their war and trying to sell war against commies to the left isn't easy.

Held for political purposes?

she broke their laws and will serve what the Russians believe is an appropriate sentence.
What is the evidence suggesting otherwise?

Absent this evidence, our government certainly should not intervene

I suggest she is a political prisoner because Russia has a significant history of detaining other American as political prisoners, the timing of the arrest approximate to the invasion over supposedly trace hash, and because she is a homo basketball player who is more man than Putin with a free throw percentage far exceeding his and he doesn't like that. She can ride a horse shirtless and look more manly than him. But she is American and I think duty calls for us to try to get her released.

American should intervene but not because of the political ramification at home including the false perception created by the media Biden cares about black people more than Trump does Mexicans. She is American. Yet, somehow the media will turn this on Trump, climate, or black lives matter and away from Griner and Russia.

I am trained as an army officer. Everything democrats and Russia do is for a political reason, including the arrest of a basketball player. It's part of the Marxist playbook.

She just plead guilty and Admitted to bringing hash oil into the country but like most criminal defendants, pretended it was an accident.

I’m willing to wait to see her sentence before hoping the us government gets involved. That dumb ***** is about to learn the real meaning of oppressed.

I remember that caning & thinking that should happen here on a first offense misdemeanor, bet that would ease up the prison system.

That is a really broad brush you are painting with! I am a Registered Democrat that couldn't care less if you don't agree with me. That is an an opinion that you have every right to have. Conversely, my opinion does not agree with your's and, thus allows me to have an opinion ; you're wrong. I also have the right to disagree with your opinion. Opinions are just that, random thoughts that create dissonance.

It is a broad brush you are correct. I'm referring mostly to Democrats in office or those left of normal old school Democrats. Democrats who are in the public eye seem to be very different than those I grew up with. Since all the leftist have taken over the Democrat party including the dnc I've been painting with a broad brush. I have plenty of friends who are old school Democrats who see things as I do .

I am not so quick to accept the verdict in spite of her admission of guilt nor accept the quick judgment she deserves of what punishment comes from all this. I am also not that trusting nor respectful of the Russian application of jurisprudence. They are corrupt by nature and there is no evidence their jurisprudence is immune from their corrupt political influence. Remember, they are Marxists just like the segment of Marxist left in America, including many in our media, and use everything, like the left here, for political purposes. Russia has never been even remotely close to even the American standard with its imperfection of jurisprudence nor is Marxism, in all its promises, close to allowing human freedom to pursue one's own innocence uninfluenced by political gain.

It's propaganda. However, our country's so inept leadership likely can't see completely what is before them. Coached by the American media to secure a talking point they gloss over Biden's failures to create its own optic of diplomatic representation for her and we lose again to capture the narrative her capture is for political reasons more so than for justice. What she deserves from Russia, in comparison to what our president alone deserves in public ridicule in the media in fondling children alone, is an unequal application of a universal justice. Fonding children verse smoking hash. Russian media is controlled just like the media in America, just by different Marxists.

I am cynical of her admitted guilt, cynical of what she "deserves", and cynical of our media to prosecute Biden for transgressions far superior to hers. It's Marxism people. The hypocrite reporting about the hypocrite, defending the hypocrite. Griner eventually becomes a real lost story to failed geopolitical gamesmanship by Biden and in the end she is a victim awaiting a return to a movie/book deal the media will build up. No real justice here, but rather an American we failed to represent.

I personally see no problem with her smoking hash . Joe Biden is a corrupt pos .
Me & every American knows or should know how Russia plays its system. Don't go there ...pretty simple. I wouldn't rent a room in Camden NJ, common sense. I'm not going places that are not friendly with the U.S , common sense. She was oppressed here , she hates this country & thinks or did think Russia & China was a respectable form of government (judicial system) . We have way bigger problems than a basketball star who made bad decisions. But our trifling government & media will use precious resources on her & over look things that matter.

Held because she packed her drugs into her luggage before attempting to leave Russia is what I heard..
