then heaven help the NBA.!

Just two days ago Jackson was projected as the #15 pick, I was surprised to see that. Though in reality, most of these guys will end up in the CBA or some other overseas team, where they'll easily make 500K to 2-3 million per year depending on how good they are. That also includes no taxes on income, free housing, living expenses etc., it's actually a better deal sometimes than being a low level NBA player, monetarily speaking.

Do you have sources of these figures? Who exactly makes $500k-$2-$3 million per year? Which countries? Which leagues?

Bleacher report had an updated mock draft for all 60 picks.. well written, but BR writers are still somewhat amateur I believe. (I got asked to write for them nearly 10 years ago, amazingly..)

The writer still had bj at 27, Jackson was at 34 and Clarke at 53..

It is going to be hard for BJ to fall much further. Some team is going to take a chance and bet that maybe Cal and him didn't click.. and they could wind up with, believe it or not, a top10 player. Jackson will probably continue to climb. Clarke I still think needs to play or he'll continue to be forgotten.

Clarke will wind up being on of the biggest one year drops in the last decade. He was a lottery pick who might wind up being one of the last few picks. And good. He deserves it. (Assuming he's not coming back)

In terms of NBA? None atm. Maybe Allen and Askew after 3-4 seasons of play and a coach that actually coaches.

I could also see Jackson as a pro after another season or two working on his offense.

that’s it.

im sure guys like Boston, Brooks, Clarke, Sarr, Toppin, and Ware could find a place overseas and make some good money. But for most of us when we hear “pro” we think NBA. And I’m sure the same is true for the players.

I would love to have him both return, get stronger, and become good players over 3 years but if any GM drafts Jackson or BJ they deserve to be fired immediately.

Briscoe made a lot I believe. I think it is difficult to find these contracts unless reported on...feel like I remember him signing a big deal overseas.

CBB is dead unless they start paying people and our program is at the center of it.

It really makes more sense to just start recruiting 4 year guys and player development. Maybe have one 5☆ you really have faith in. Let the chips fall where they may.

A friend mine's son plays overseas, Armenia. He doesn't make anywhere near that kind of money.

I think they have proven how good they are. Not very good!

From the links above, it looks like, other than China, overseas pay is paltry compared to the NBA with some 'top' leagues average salary just barely 6 figures. Better than nothing but certainly nowhere near enough to set oneself up for life. Figure a handful of years for a career and maybe a kid has made $500k gross. Not sure what you do after that with no college degree, no further prospects of a basketball career, etc. If some of UK's players are leaving early for this scenario, it appears to me that they're electing for very short term gain vs long term success. Stick at UK for 3+ years, get a degree and there are enough BBN to ensure long term employment. Just my opinion

No taxes on income? That doesn't sound right. I know a few guys that have played on those kind of circuits for a while their contracts are more closely inline with around 100k for vets and 50k for newbies. They do get free lodging and food sometimes. I mean there are some guys who get a million a year but they're like the best of the best not someone like for instance a Derek Willis.

I hope you are right about Askew and Allen except I firmly believe it is not the coach holding them back.

Jackson will be drafted in the 12 to 20 position. Boston will be drafted late first round, go figure.

Brooks, Toppin and Ware should be back. Brooks may feel pressure, from wherever , to leave.

Clarke, have no idea.

The others you mentioned will probably find a place overseas.

Boston has not shown me anything close to being drafted in the 1st round. Not a great shooter and can't dribble that great. Someone must be seeing something that a lot of don't see.

Clarke the longer he does not play I have seen that his stock is falling. Some say he is not even seen in the 1st round picks.

That's definitely the case, depending on contract, you are not earning the money via or in the US. It's the same with contractors serving overseas on the behest of a nation, there are a lot of loopholes.

then heaven help the NBA.!

I have felt this way about a few freshmen at UK. Quickley and PJ didn't impress many people their freshman year. PJ had a few very good games. But, neither looked like NBA players.

I saw some NBA stats the other day, and was reminded how disappointed I was with them their freshman year.

Jackson will go 1st round because of freakish athletic ability and rebounding. Boston will probably go late 1st round because someone will take a flyer on his ability. I hope to look back in 3-4 years and remember when they struggled at UK.

Clarke needs to come back and work to follow PJ's road to NBA.

I'm resigned to fact that few freshmen will consistently look good at UK. (It will only be the best of the best.) Cal better figure out how to always have a guard that can break teams down off the dribble. (That's a back breaker.) College basketball is a guard driven league. Askew seems to be a solid kid and I wish him the best. He'll be a very good college player around yr 3 for some school. (Hope it's UK.) But, he nor Mintz are going to break teams down and finish around the rim.

I worked overseas for 14 years. You have an exclusion for IRS taxes at about 107,000, including salary and benefits like housing and airline tickets. After that, there are some complex rules depending upon how long you live overseas. Mostly, however, you have to pay income taxes somewhere.

Here are some examples:

Each CBA team is only allowed 4 foreign players except the national army team that has none.

That's changed pull up some of their rosters, some have 8-10 US players on them now, which is wrong IMO, though it is what it is.

Exactly, these guys sometimes get that worked into their contract, if they're really good, their league will cover their tax portions.

I don’t know how the NBA stays in business, some of the picks they make are head scratchers!

I looked at rosters for about half the teams. None of them have over 4 foreign players, that's counting Taiwan.

Umm, wut?

Askew & Allen? LOL
Allen is a big guard with a nice outside shot. Askew had a good shot as was a good floor general in hs. Both need more time. Neither would start but could develop into role players in the nba. Not saying it will happen, but I could see it.

Within the next 3 years, Boston will score 40 points in an NBA game and we will all pull our hair out.

generally I would agree with most players but I don’t see that with Boston, he can’t shoot, can’t really dribble and isn’t strong enough to drive in college let alone the NBA.
