What about our recruiting class we have signed so far? Can they just transfer out immediately?

We would have to release them from their LOIs, which we would most assuredly do.

But any new coach would have an opportunity to convince them to stick, and there's not a lot of open spots out there for them to jump to.

Arkansas signed 9 kids in December, Ole Miss signed 12. Those two schools try to steal from us enough anyway, they would most assuredly be on our signees if this scenario played out.

I’m not saying we have to keep him because of that. Frankly I don’t think he will ever turn it around. But the risk of blowing up this recruiting class is very real, and is probably enough reason for our administration to justify to themselves letting him coach one more season.

So what are you going to do next November as we suck hard all fall, then have an early signing period closing in a couple weeks later??? May be even worse that the scenario you lay out. Frankly, I’d almost guarantee 100% it would be exponentially worse (if we suck, combined with UM and Upig picking up any momentum). Hire a competent coach (with some fanfare and fire) and they will most likely hold the majority of those 22 firm.

All we would do is kick the can down the road. Our 2020 recruiting would be **** especially if we are turning over a lot of assistants. The fan support is going to be bad and recruits would know that Moorhead was a dead man walking. If you get a new coach now, he at least has a chance to hang onto the signees and start working on the 2021 class.

Ain’t happening. Just saying he’s here through next year no matter how many rumors and threads are started all over the Internet on various boards and sites.

We should never let a recruiting class be the basis for whether we keep a coach or not. I think it's a net win to pull the trigger now and have a chance to keep this class together instead of keeping a lame duck coach for a year and having a ****** class after he's fired next November.

I don’t disagree with you, and you can’t keep a guy just because he recruits well if everything else sucks. I definitely see both sides of the coin here.

Steve said it’s up to the university to release them from the NLI. So at the very least - the new coach will have an opportunity to talk to them.

That’s correct. We don’t have to let them out of anything. We most likely would release any of them wanting out, but it’s our decision. If they are not released, they can hire a lawyer. Tom Mars is now with the NCAA, so I don’t think he’s available.

How are we even going to hire any decent assistant coaches since they would be 99% sure they’re signing up for a 9-month gig? Nobody’s buying cruise tickets when they know the boat’s got a hole in it.
