1. I never was excited about the Solich hire.
I was really excited about the Callahan hire.
I was not excited about the Pelini hire.
I was not excited about the Riley hire.

The best thing that could have happened, way back when, would have been if Cally could have kept Bo as his DC. This combination could have worked out. But it was pretty obvious that Bo thought he was HC material so that never could have happened, Nebraska got Cosgroved and the rest is history. Later, Riley never had a chance with Bo's substandard (truthfully anti-Nebraska) recruiting. Also, he won't be around long enough ever to have his team. Bye, Felicia.

2. I am extremely excited about a Scott Frost hire. He is what we need at this point in time but he is going to need at least 3 years before he can transform us into what we desire. Roster holes are one thing....the backwards culture/atmosphere surrounding the team will be his biggest challenge.

3. Everyone needs to pipe down about the worries that SF's wife won't want to come to live in Nebraska because she loves the weather in FL or loves Orlando or loves the south. Do you know what else women/wives love? A multi-million $$$ guaranteed contract that is bigger than their husband's current one that will set them up for life and allow them to live where ever the f@ck she wants for the rest of her life. If wives had so much say in what jobs their coach husbands took, there wouldn't be a well respected coach coaching further north than Dallas, TX. Hell, Arizona St, Arizona, San Diego St and Miami would be in the national championship playoffs every year. I bet you that if the University of Maine would offer SF $40 million dollars that his wife would start knitting a pair of raccoon skin socks for that little baby of theirs.

4. I find it HILARIOUS that a guy from Alabama tweeted about SF becoming the coach so enlightened minds rushed to check his credentials to confirm that he was in fact a credible journalist. Once confirmed people seemed to trust his tweet. I guess trusting journalists only extends to your college football team in Nebraska but not about much more important issues. (insert Kermit the frog sipping tea meme and "but that's none of my business" quote)

I trusted NU with the Solich for a couple of years, after all, it was pretty much the same way T.O. got his job. I though Callahan was a stupid hire from day 1. I was OK with Bo until 2011 and progressively started to hate the man for his personality and antics. I though MR was an unmitigated disaster from day 1 and lost all confidence in NU understanding how to right the ship.

Pretty much sums it up for me. I was a freshman at UNL when Osborne retired, so that was my first rodeo with a new hc at Nebraska. Now, in the 20 years since, it all seems like chaos to me, to sum it up shortly. My thoughts at the time:

Solich: Ok, Tom, I trust you
Callahan: WC offense at Nebraska?
Pelini: Meh, I don’t know what to think
Riley: Seriously?

We’ve been Cosgroved for the last 15 years, whether you were a Bo supporter or a Eichorst/Riley supporter- they’ve ALL disappointed us.

Tom pretty much hurt us by trusting him with the Solich decision, then burned the trust bridge down with Pelini.
I agree. Like I said, at the time. But we really had no reason not to trust his decision on Solich. And, no, I don’t want to rehash all the stories that came out after his retirement.

Without using the benefit of hindsight, I doubt many here - if any - didn’t put faith in TO’s decision.

Solich was the hire that started the downfall, not the brightest star in the sky, did not know how to adjust, either in game, or scheme-wise over the long haul. Callahan was a terrible hire. He inherited a powerhouse Raider team, and in his second year, they fell terribly. Both, by the way, were good to great position coaches in their careers. Bo was probably a good hire, but TO did not really open up a wide search. I say good hire, because he did resurrect a poor defense, with the help of Carl. Eventually became a terrible hire because of the brothers' personalities, and egos. Riley was bad hire because of his career resume. He had some spotty success in different settings, but nothing sustained. Why would you ever hire someone on the premise that he will be better in our setting because we have a better brand. Hire someone who has shown he is successful in whatever situation he has been in.

Tom gave us 2 HC’s that both won 70% plus of their games ata NU. If we follow his advice again this time and get Frost, I’m confident that it’ll be 3 coaches with 70% plus winning percentage. The trick will be to see if husker fans don’t get restless if we muddle through some 9-10 win season. I fully expect Frost to have similar results to Solich and Pelini, but with better recruiting and no emotional baggage.

I don't think Tom gets credit if we end up hiring SF. He might help us get him but the decision is Moos'.
