than the Heart of Ribeye at Restaurant Tyler, I haven't found it.

The pork chop is in the top 5 plates anywhere in MS.

Fantastic restaurant.

Restaurant Tyler wasn't there when I was a student...

But your mention of a pork chop requires me to inform you of the greatest pork chop ever cooked. At any Perry's in Texas, you can find their signature "7 finger high" pork chop. I'm pretty sure it's the best pork chop in the world.

Great food but bring a fat wallet because dinner for 2 will run about $200

What the 17 are you ordering for two that will run you $200 at Tyler's? The top entre and a good bottle of wine will cost you $125 max. It's our fav place in the Patch and we go often, and usually get the filet or fish special.

Who has a better steak in MS? I've been to every place in Oxford, Jackson, Madison, and Starkville, and none of them come close. Admittedly haven't been to Doe's.

Fantastic restaurant.

At a private Christmas party in Bin612 back in the day, Ty cooked a deer backstrap whole. He made some sort of orange marmalade spicy glaze and cooked it medium rare. I wish like hell I could say that I have been able to come close to making any meat taste like that. It is still the best steak I have ever eaten and second place isn't close.

Shapley's in Ridgeland is the standard.
Ely's and the Manship are getting real close.

Agree, Mark sold all his recipes when he sold the business and it has continued

to be top notch.

I had a bone in strip at Walkers not too long ago..

that held it's on against any piece of beef I've ever had. Basically you get a cook who knows what he's doing with a nice cut and it's gonna come out excellent. The Shapley's strip has always been my standard to be judged against. Keeping in mind of course that what cut, how it's cooked, and how it's seasoned are all very personal preferences for people. Except for people who order any cut cooked to medium well or higher. Those people are horrible members of the human race.

I disagree wholeheartedly. Grew up going to Shappley's. It isn't what it once was. I would rather have a steak from Tico's.

I prefer my steak not to come out from the kitchen on a sizzling plate of grease and butter. You need a damn bib to keep it off your clothes.
Have you ever heard of letting a steak rest before eating it? Try it sometime..

Yep, Tico's steaks are some kind of nasty crap on a plate, swimming in butter/grease/etc. Never understood the hype and love for that place. I can't speak for the last 10 years, but up until about 2005 and still to this day, the best steak I've ever eaten came from Shappley's.

Second place can be fought over but The Manship is the best place to eat in Jackson or the surrounding area.

I have had some great steaks at Walker's too, but I still hold Shapley's above all others here in the Jackson area..

I got a steak at the manship last time I went. It was better than Tico's but the other food I have had there has been exceptional.

My sample set is limited, but not a big fan of Tico's. And Shappley's was not as good last time I went as earlier times. I have had a very good steak at Bill's Creole in Flora, anyone else?

Doe's is my next target.

Any of you guys ever ate at Como's Steakhouse? Ate there the other day on a trip to Batesville, and it's pretty good.

I cannot offer much in the way of comparisons between all these Jackson restaurants (mainly because I cannot in good conscience pay $40 for something I can do better at home), but I agree that when I see a restaurant that practices what you just said, I know they do not know what they are doing. That whole sizzling plate deal is for show and only fools stupid yuppies. People rant and rave about McGuire's steaks in Pensacola/Destin, but they come out burnt on one side due to that stupid practice. It is as if they simply do not know better.

Used to eat at Como often 15-20 years ago when I was working in the area. Was very good back then.
