And I know that’s a huge if . What will Louisville get in the way of probation if they base it upon what UK got for 1400 bucks falling out of an Emory envelope?
I know they will argue that all coaches involved have been fired and it’s unfair to punish innocent players and fans . However that’s been true in almost every NCAA imposed probation .
So is anyone on this board familiar enough with the terms of our probation to make an educated guess what should happen to Louisville ?
Of course you have the additional fact here that UL did it when they were already on probation . Thanks

Depending on how many schools get caught up in this, I can see the NCAA leveling UL as a repeat offender.

Let's look at the really big picture,the money issues that are being talked about in the trial make the point shaving scandal of the early 50's seem like child's play,the Emory issue is no more than a pack of gum by these standards.No one has any control of what is going on in college basketball,the UNC case underscored that fact beyond question.

The NCAA is only concerned with keeping the money from the NCAAT coming in,they will do all they can and whatever is necessary to see that continue. All the other stuff is window dressing

Looks like we're probably going to land the Irishman after all ... LOL at UL... had a chance to land a top 30 big man over UK and ruined it with all their past cheating.

Well, given what we received for the $1,400/Emory envelope/$100 handshake thing -- and if we extrapolate that based on the $$ involved -- my calculations tell me that UofL should receive:
-- 432 years of probation
-- 261 years of no TV coverage
-- 54 negative covers on Sports Illustrated
-- A loss of 706 scholarship players

Just sayin...

First of all I’m curious where you got the $1400 figure? The reported amount was $1000 which is a nice round number & easy to remember vs. $1400 which is oddly specific in comparison.

Secondly, just for the record no money was found to be “falling out” of any envelope, despite what a few overeager sportswriters would like to think.

Per the original testimony an employee said he saw an envelope with the flap open, and upon inspection discovered cash inside. There was no “bursting”, no “explosion”, no “falling out” etc.

And unlike most every other employee who works in the shipping industry and would have taped the package back up and sent it on its way, this employee made a big deal of it to his managers who proceeded to start a strange and convoluted delivery saga which took up most of the day. So much so that by the end of the shift everyone at the site knew not only who the package was addressed to but its contents as well. (I just find the whole situation absurd and question whether any other package has received as much attention as this one that particular day.)

Anyway I feel the need to correct you in order to hopefully prevent your post from misleading more people. It’s bad enough when rival fans exaggerate the details but UK fans at least should know the facts.

As to your question, no it’s not relevant to compare any modern-day punishment with what happened in the late 80’s and early 90’s. The NCAA has essentially abdicated their responsibility & arguably their authority to punish schools like the old days.

I think if there weren't a bunch of other schools involved in the FBI sting Louisville would really get hammered. Very possibly get the death penalty. But now it looks like they were doing what a bunch of other schools were and it makes it not look as bad.

But the big difference with Louisville is that they were already on probation for hookergate, plus they had coaches directly involved with facilitating payments to players. Sounds like a lot of the other schools covered their asses better to hide exactly how payments were distributed.

I think at minimum they get a couple years postseason ban with scholarship reductions. And since their part of the FBI trials is happening now, there is no reason for the NCAA to wait to impose penalties. I can see their entire recruiting class scattering like rats on a sinking ship.

Sorry to be wrong on the $1400 number . I got it strictly from my memory which admittedly is not a good source.
Your second point of the NCAA abdicating their responsibility is why I created the post. My guess is if they were being consistent UL would receive the d at penalty . However , in view of the damage to other schools caused by the SMU death penalty my guess is they will never give anyone the death penalty so as to not screw up TV revenues .
However , if it were me making the decisions within that guideline I would give any school that deserved the death penalty a penalty so severe they would have rather have had the death penalty .
For instance something like this .
1) a hellacious fine equal to about ten years of the schools projected share of TV revenue from their conference .
2) a limit of a total of eight scholarship players each year for ten years .
3 ) post season ban for five years .

Kind of like in the Army . I can’t make you do it but I can make you wish you had .

Again sorry for going from my memory without looking up the exact amount .

I agree, the main difference, currently, is that the Louisville coaches have been directly implicated in getting the money to the recruits. The NCAA, may or may not, have enough evidence on the other schools to implicate the coaching staff. But the NCAA will try to move on from this as quickly as possible, so who knows what the hell they do. Louisville may get all the heat from this while others just lose games won due to playing ineligible players.

No problem on the money. John Feinstein used to falsely claim that the amount was $10,000 over the course of decades and a lot of people repeated that as fact. I just think UK fans should know the facts when discussing these issues.

As far as the NCAA, at this point they’re basically co-conspirators. As illustrated by the Corey Maggette case and more recently the UNC scandal there are some schools they absolutely will not punish. It’s all about money at this point and part of that is maintaining a facade more than anything else.

The UNCaa has stated no more death penalties. How many times does this have to be repeated? And yes, the UNCaa is wildly inconsistent, but that's because it's made up of cowards who can't take a strong stance on anything for fear of being called bad names. U6 deserves the death penalty. Since that is off the table I think a good compromise is 5 seasons no tournament, no TV. The cowards can say that they aren't hurting the kids, they can still play ball. And the rest of the nation can shizzhole the U6 stink.

I believe $1400 was the amount Claude Basset gave a high school coach. I also believe it was in the form of two travelers checks. How bout it JP? Do I win?

Louisville’s “defense” that they have cleaned house is invalid. They wouldn’t have cleaned house had they not been caught. If not caught, things would be status quo.

In the case of the phony money exchange between Emory and a KY recruit, there are very few similarities and many sharp discrepancies. In Emory’s case, there was no carnal knowledge of any KY recruit and no bodily fluids were exchanged. Consequently, no precedent exists in comparison with the debauchery that is UL basketball. Only The Filth in NC has committed a more heinous act against college basketball. Annihilation is the only appropriate response for both programs.

Wiseman is pretty much dirt now. Only Duke can legally recruit him. He really needs to brush up on dancing to boy bands, flopping and kissing with a lot of tongue.
