So anyone that wins the title 'insert here' is a good candidate. Got it.

I was never crazy about Jay wright as a candidate for UK and I'm still not.

Look at his overall record there. I realIze it's harder to win at Nova than UK but he's been to 2 final fours in 15 seasons and only made it past the first weekend 5 times.

He's basically a poor man's Bill Self.

John Calipari coached 17 years at UMass and Memphis and only went to 2 FF's and never won a title. Pretty similar dont you think? There is a huge difference in your potential success level at UK vs UM, Memphis and Nova.

Id take Jay Wright in a second, but dont think he would come.

How have UMASS and Memphis done since Cal left? I think Villanova will stay relevant.

Maybe, maybe not. They were not relevent when Wright took over, missing the tourney 7 out of 13 years and never making it past the 2nd round in 6 of those appearances. He didnt exactly take over a juggernaut.

If Cal stays as of as I hope he does, Wright will be too old when Cal retires, if he hasn't retired also.

I recall lots of early exits by Jay Wright. Also, he's not much younger than Cal. He won't be a candidate.

It takes a special special person to be coach at the most envied, watched gold standard program to date..A whole lot more than coaching, a 24-7 spotlight on you and everything you do, everything about coach, family, and even his dog is open game for the most vile people ever, fan base included and the list just goes on. The only 2 coaches IMO that handled the situation well since I have been a fan is Joe B and Calipari, however Joe B had a whole different setting as coach too. The limelight got to Sutton, Pitino, Smith, and it literally ate up Billy Clyde, he was over his head from the start. With that being said, I don't think there is anybody out there right now that can withstand the demands that this job would put on them. Think about it, trying to follow up and stay with the recruiting of talent that Cal has set the bar to. That's a shoulder load right out of the gate, Again, I can't think of anybody who would fill Cal's shoes and carry on with what he has done. The pressure would devour them.
I think pitino is crud but the limelight did not get to him at all. He loved it with his egotistical and narcissistic lifestyle.

Believe it or not, not everybody is begging to become the UK coach. Some guys are actually happy where they are. Take a guy like Jay Wright---born and raised in the Philly area as a Villlanova fan, former Villanova assistant--already has said Villanova was his dream job--If he wants to move up, he's reached a point where NBA offers would be available. So why deal with the often painful fishbowl that is UK coach in Lexington when one can instead take a cushy NBA job or stay at your childhood Villanova dream job?
Yep. Some guys just love where they are, which is not a bad thing. Others might be willing to make a move, but wouldn't want the weight of expectations and fishbowl experience waiting for them at UK. Another factor that has changed in recent times is the money: now, you can coach at some mid-level place and make a really nice living. You may not make $6 million like Cal, but you can make enough in a few years that it changes your family's situation/lifestyle. So you don't have to take the UK job for money reasons.....

I believe I read somewhere that Wright's dream job would be the Sixers...yes the Sixers.
