Other then being a year older, will they be a whole lot better? Could they win 20 games? Do we need an overhaul and bring in 6-7 new players? We need guards, we have the worst in the SEC.

The problem with speculating about next season is ALWAYS who will ACTUALLY return. We have so much turnover not only from those declaring for the NBA Draft, but also those players that KNOW they are going to be recruited over and will NOT get the privilege of playing through their mistakes going forward. Cal has used a DOUBLE STRANDARD for the multi-year players that keeps our program from retaining ENOUGH experienced RETURNING players to EVER look forward to "Next Season".

That HAS TO CHANGE!!!!

If brooks returns he is the key. Add in a component back court and we are back in the tournament. I don’t think this program is in position to go from 10 wins or less to title contender. Tsweibe will help along with brooks but I don’t see it. These players aren’t very good or consistent.

If everyone were to return, then yes, I feel quite confident we would be better.
Would we be good enough to contend for the SEC title? Or is Cal going to try to spread the floor? We still don't have shooter's that can get open.

If this whole team came back along with working on their games, we are final 4 material. No less then 7-8 are gone unfortunately.

This is what makes this season so much worse for me is knowing just about everyone will probably leave. I watched the game and thought it is very possible we only have Toppin and Ware back. Very possible.
Then what do we do come next year?
I hope more than those two come back but it could happen and next year will be another crappy one.

This team is not that far off but they have some deficiencies you cannot fix in the middle of a season.

They cannot shoot.

If you are able address that it goes a long way to fixing the problem.

The turnovers and choking...I chalk it up to youth. Before someone says, but 2012 was young...we have had teams that could make up for deficiencies with raw talent. It isn't the same now.

You have to be joking. What about about this team screams final 4 material next season?? They’ll be lucky to make the tourney.
Most of these guys are going to make a huge jump from this year to next. Unfortunately we all know most are gone!

UK has to bring in an elite point guard to be successful. As in lottery pick level. Brooks would have to stay. Tsweibe will make a difference. It would be nice for Allen to stay. As far as the rest, I don’t give a damn if they all leave. Good riddance.

Yes, but since that isn’t happening who do they need back.

1) Brooks-he is a problem. NBA body.
2) Askew-he will be much better.
3) Jackson-he needs to the guy at the 5. Incredible upside. Probably not happening.
4) Allen-needs to be a 4 year player. Deadly by Junior year.
5) Mintz-most consistent player.

They would be really good if these 5 come back. Hard to say but Brooks, Jackson and Mintz are 50-50. Allen needs to stick it out.

I don’t understand how anyone would say no to this. It’s literally been the primary issue the entire time Cal has been here. Veterans win college basketball games. How many good teams this year have key contributors who weren’t great freshman. Everyone here wants dominant freshman that stay for 3-4 years. The elite freshman leave after one year and the non elites improve with time.

Nick Richards is a perfect example. This forum dumped on that kid for 2 years only to have him be great as a junior. All these guys will get better with age, time, maturity, and experience. Anyone who says crap like “I don’t want any of them back” must enjoy losing because that’s what will happen.

I’ll take every one of them back and watch them develop into solid basketball players.Imagine a team comprised of freshman IQ, Derek Willis, Dom Hawkins, Jorts, Nick Richards, Darius Miller, etc. That team would be atrocious. Now imagine that same team as upperclassman.

Experience wins at the college level.

Allen, Brooks, Jackson, Ware add the big stud transfer...problem is we need seasoned guards not freshman leading the University of Kentucky.

Rest can go..

Just being better next year isn't setting the bar very high.

And I fully expect most players will leave again. This time it will be because they realize Cal isn't getting them to the NBA faster than anyone else.

Maybe. But it’s not like we are a S16/EE but young team this year and can improve dramatically nxt year. “Better” could be winning 10 games. In reality we will probably go 18-13 or something (if EVERYBODY returns) and sneak into the tournament as a 10-12 seed and get bounced in the first or 2nd round.

If he comes up with a PG that makes him look good UK may get 20 wins but since 2015 I have seen nothing that tells me the Cats are going to win a championship, we are now in the same situation we had with Tubby.

The number of kids who leave will exceed the number of wins we will have on the season. That's not a well run program.

Maybe Ware comes back, but the rest you named you can guarantee they’re all gone.
