Would you say if Barnes duplicates his Texas performance at UT, he would be considered a successful coach by their standards? By our standards?

Huge success. They were Ready to build a statue for Pearl and all he did was an elite 8

Why do you think he would be able to duplicate his performance? I personally don't see any way he recruits anywhere near the level he did at Texas. So, how well is he going to do with players that aren't 4 and 5 star recruits? He underperformed with top classes... is he going to turn that around and overperform with lower ranked ones? I certainly could be wrong, but I just see him being a pretty big let down for UT fans.

He had a very rich recruiting ground in the state of Texas . NO WAY he will get those type of players at Tenn .

Tennessee would be crazy about that kind of performance. Kentucky, not so much.

Somebody else said it best. All UT wants is to get to the NCAA tournament. All Rick Barnes does is get to the NCAA tournament.

I just wonder if he can consistently get there from Tennessee. I think the UT program has the potential to make regular appearances in the NCAA, but I'm not sure that Barnes can coach up players at UT given history of coaching talent down at Texas.

Could get some good kids out of Memphis, if the local school continues to fade.

Compare his record at Clemson, that would be closer to UT's level. He was at Clemson 4 seasons, first season NIT the other 3 seasons he took them to the NCAA, 1 Sweet Sixteen. If he can take UT to the NCAA 3 out of 4 seasons, that would be great for them. UT just needs to build a stable program that makes the tourny and it will be an improvement for them.

If he duplicates Texas, yes. He's also 60 and not getting any better...he hasn't really gotten better as a coach for years. He'll recruit decently/pretty well, raise UT's overall job status a bit, and be done in 5-6 years. I know a couple diehard UT fans that went completely insane over this hire at first and then started to realize that it's not quite as amazing as they once thought. Probably very solid and better than some seemingly random guy like recently but to expect a massive leap that remains consistent probably not the smartest thing.
