For the last several weeks, been buying 5 - 10 lbs bags of ice at my liquor store. Recently they changed the size to 7 lbs for same cost as 10.

The ice game in the Jackson metro is ran by about 2 groups. All those machines at gas stations and stores are stocked. With the increases in fuel and plastic, that sounds about right.

That's 42% inflation (or shrinkflation if you want to call it that). Just another example of people getting screwed.

Our entry and low level workers have gotten raises that have actually exceeded the rate of inflation, but I feel for the people up the chain far enough to not get that bump but not far enough up it that they don't feel it when gas and groceries go up significantly. Hope the market lets us at least catch them up to where they were over the next year or two.

250.00 a month extra for kids is great for those families. But it is a major part of the inflation right now. Those families are not feeling the hurt. It's not about ice. It's about a senior citizen going with out a meal because food cost has gotten outrageous. Inflation is a tax on everyone.

Why are you buying 50 lbs of ice at the liquor store? Do you own a frozen margarita machine you rent out?

50 lbs of ice is usually at the bait shop or beer store.

That's probably not a major part of inflation now. We gave billions of dollars to businesses, many of whom suffered essentially no loss, and then also gave billions to people to not work, and also gave money to people just for existing (as long as they didn't make too much money). The part going to kids is a small part of it.

Even if it were more, the people raising kids right now are the ones essentially bearing the cost of supporting social security in the future when they are going to get screwed personally. And the people currently receiving social security right now got a pretty sweet gig, as they likely won't take the screwing.

That said, inflation is an awful tax and people downvoting simply acknowledging that some people are getting screwed right now are callous.

There has been something like $6 trillion in covid spending. The PPP program along was almost a trillion dollars. The expanded tax credit is going to cost maybe $100B this year. Again, giving parents a little extra help is not a major part of what is causing inflation.
