Usually wait until Monday to look at this but I'm having a lazy Sunday so here it goes.

Chicago Comer (5-2) @ Braidwood (3-5) - Awaiting this weeks results for Comer, but it doesn't influence my prediction. Always hard to pick a CPS school. Their results are kind of all over the place, and although RC has more than one win, none of their wins hold any weight. However, they are improved and it sounds like things are inching toward a slow turn around (hopefully). I will take RC in a close one. Comets 24 Comer 16

Coal City (7-1) @ Wilmington (7-1) - GOTW.....no GOTY.......week 9 conference championship on the line at Becker Field, it doesn't get much better than that. Outside of their close losses neither team has been tested. Outside of those loses both teams are rolling, scoring over 40 and giving up minimal points. I cannot pick against the Cats at home, but this is probably one of the more capable CC teams that can slay the giant. I think this is going to be a physical game with every play being important. Unless there's some crazy seeding, first round of the playoffs should be a bit of a practice week for both teams even the one with the 7-2 record going in. I'll take the Hammers in a slobberknocker. WHS 21 CC 20

Peotone (3-5) @ Herscher (5-3) - I am shocked at how far off the Tone has fell. With only 2 real wins and those two teams have a combined 1 win, it is something I did not think I would see. I always viewed the Blue Devils as the best of the ICE middle ground. Peotone knows the playoffs are out of reach and they lost a heartbreaker to their rivals. This one won't be close. Herscher pads their seeding a little here with another win. Tigers 35 Tone 14

Streator (1-7) -@ Manteno (5-3) - Same boat as Herscher game. The Teno gets to tune a few things up before playoffs and pad their seeding. Panthers 45 Streator 17

This CC team will be a huge challenge for Wilmo. They don’t have Benson anymore, but they have really good offensive balance.

Manteno will put away Streator with no issues and somehow find themselves ending up 6-3
I have a bad feeling to Tone is done for the year, the close loses derailed their season and I do hope they bounce back next year. Somehow Herscher finds themselves at 6-3
Braidwood found a week 9 opponent and will close the season 4-5 I think. BWood has gotten better and hopefully this new head coach get get them competitive again
Wilmo & CC square off for the conference title. This will be a very close and physical game. Regardless of the outcome I hope both teams come away with no real injuries. Both teams are capable of long playoff runs. Wilmo has the best player in the conference in Kettman, kid just makes plays on both sides of the ball. The Soph running back is a load too. Physical O & D lines. CC has had a certain formula for deep playoff runs in the past. They were give the ball to Dibble, give the ball to Jezik, give the ball to Benson. Those days are gone and this is the most balanced CC offense I have seen in years. Henline is the best natural QB I have seen at CC in my 40 years of being around the program. Natyshok is a gifted fast back. Defense is anchored by two really good tackles in Poyner and Easton. All that said, I am not sure if either D can stop the others team offense on the regular so this is going to come down to a turnover, loss of down or one team has one more possession. Final CC 34 Wilmo 28

I think overall Peotone is pretty young if Im not mistaken they should probably be back up in the mix for 3rd in the Conference this year. I think they end the year on a high note and beat Herscher.

Glad to see Reed Custer found a game for week 9 and they will get the win.

Manteno keeps the positive momentum going forward for the playoffs.

Coal City vs Wilmington a huge playoff atmosphere right before the playoffs. 2 Great programs hard to pick against the Cats at home.

Chicago Comer (5-2) @ Braidwood (3-5) - I know nothing about Comer. Matter of fact, I've never even heard of them. The Comets showed flashes of getting better this season, but I'm curious to see how the off-season goes for the new guy. R-C has struggled with that aspect in the past. I'll take the Comets at home to end on a good note. R-C 34 Comer 19

Peotone (3-5) @ Herscher (5-3) - I'm not sold on the Tigers this season, far from it, but I honestly believe the Devils have nothing left in the tank. I don't think anybody saw 3-6 coming, but I think everybody agrees they will be back, Herscher 28 Peotone 20

Streator (1-7) @ Manteno (5-3) - Obviously, Streets doesn't offer much, but they do provide Manteno the opportunity to gain some depth and positive vibes before next week's playoffs. Everybody plays. Manteno 42 - Streator 13

Coal City (7-1) @ Wilmington (7-1) - This one has been circled since the schedules were announced. It's not just a huge game in the ICE, it's a huge game in the AREA. People from all over the state will be plugged in to this one! CC has been very, very good this season to say the least. The Coalers have shown outstanding balance on both sides of the ball and kinda remind me of the 2019 team for those who follow. Wilmo equally impressive. From their strong showing vs. Morris in Week 1, the Cats have shown why they are the program everybody points to in the ICE. Balanced on both sides of the ball and just like every Reents team, tough and extremely disciplined. This game will come down to specials. Who can flip the field when they need to and win the battle of field position. Would not be surprised one bit if it comes down to who has the ball last and a FG to win it. Wilmo 34 CC 31

RC - CPL schools don't fare very well against schools downstate.

Herscher - refine some things against a decent Peotone team who is more than capable of winning this one. However, unless they get a very favorable draw, Herscher's playoff experience will be short lived.

Manteno - see above statement but subtract the "capable of winning this one.". Give Streator coach a few years, they might be ok in the near future.

Wilmington - history shows to not bet against them at home. Will be fun to see how these two teams do in the playoffs.

Is there going to be any live stream of CC@Wilmo for those who can't venture their way to Becker Field for the best game of the year? I know someone who has that problem and I'm glad it's not me.

Comer at RC- Not sure what to think of this game. Just glad the Comets were able to get one. Hopefully can end the season on a good note.

Peotone at Herscher- Herscher has pulled off some late game heroics to beat Manteno and R-C this season. I would like to say I see them winning this game but something tells me the Blue Devils are going to muster up some strength and end the season with a win. Ground and pound to keep the ball away from the Tigers.

Streator at Manteno- I like Manteno to win this one pretty easily. Streator has played a couple of opponents pretty tough but I think Manteno is just better. Manteno QB runs wild in this one.

Coal City vs Wilmo- The Coalers are playing really well but so are the Cats. Tough game to pick. Hope both teams come out healthy for what should be pretty good playoff runs depending on how the brackets fall. Home field and coaching go in favor of the Cats so I guess thats where I have to lean.

Comer @ Comet - R-C ends on a high note

Peotone
@ Herscher - Another (and final) mid pack coin flip that Peotone keeps getting on the wrong side of. I'll go with the Blu Devils, just because.

Streator @ Manteno - Manteno is better

Coaler @ Wilmo - I gotta pick my 'Cats, but this CC team is very good and very balanced on offense.

Good thing about tonight is we see how good CC and Wilmo really are. Neither has been tested since their early season losses. I think both teams are as good as advertised and are better now then the first two weeks. I will guarantee one thing, it will be a physical game. Hopefully both teams can come through the game healthy. Go Coalers

I am shocked at how bad the cats put it on CC. I thought it would be much closer. Their run game is just too much.

CC's qb can sling it and natyshok can run the ball well too but it just wasn't enough.

I think this is just once again a testament to how weak the ICE is and how far above the top two teams are. It's a combo of both. Herscher and Manteno each have 6 wins and they got clocked by the two top dogs. Hopefully the gap can close in the future.

Yeah it was a surprising result for sure. Absolutely did not expect so many big plays. The line and ends did a phenomenal job up front.

Credit to CC, they battled and kept hanging around, but this outcome was probably on the extreme end if this game was played 10 times.

Hopefully both teams make long playoff runs.

I was shocked when CC came out in a 4 man front. I think Wilmo had 300+ rushing yards in the first half. Is Kettman the all time rushing yards leader in school history?

I think Farrell is all time leader, but Kettman is a hell of a good player and is in the conversation for a spot on Wilmo’s Mt. Rushmore.

I bet he would be the all time leader if he wasn't in the same backfield as Farrell for 2 years.

Who's your Mt. Rushmore?

Anderson and Vercelli for sure. Hard not to put Farrell with his career numbers plus a 2000 yard season in there. After that good luck picking the 4th because there are so many Wilkens, Banning, Scheel, Kettman and the list goes on and on and on.

Weaver, Hawkins, Zlomie (the kickoff return TD is enough alone to be in the conversation)
