This made national news yesterday. The focus of the story was that the raids happened at different food processing plants across the state. Many people who were believed to be in the USA illegally were taken into custody, BUT their kids were usually at school and had no family to come home to. The images on the news and social media were heartbreaking.

But speaking of social media, there were two distinct camps. Those who were super pissed at ICE and the administration for the raids and leaving children with out a mom and dad to come home to. Most of these children were at their first day of the school year and came home to no one or were kept at school because their home was empty. Others jumped way to the other side and believed that unauthorized residents here illegally were breaking the law and it was simply a law being enforced.

Where do you land on this? And how will this impact the Mississippi economy and poultry producers? What is the "right" thing to do for these workers who, by most public accounts, are hard working people who are causing no harm? Does it matter if they have young children or not? Does it matter how long they've been here already and have stayed out of trouble?

They should not be here illegally, and they are breaking the law, but on the other hand the US has failed to provide an effective mechanism for people to legally immigrate here.
Those kids were going to school for free because in many cases their parents aren't paying taxes, so that hurts the schools.
Treating the issue as Republican vs. Democrat is never going to solve the problem. You have to both (1) control illegal immigration and (2) fix the legal immigration system.
