Never been before, always heard the horror stories of water and ice when going to Mexico. Anyone have any tips or is it simply drink bottle water.

This. If you happen to go into town and eat, any of the U.S. chain restaurants may have filtered water as well. Anywhere else is no bueno.

We go there a decent amount. We usually stay at the resort and I usually get the tourist bug. (Not the full blown Montezuma) My doctor friend has started writing me a script for Ciprofloxacin. It saves the vacation.
