I was wrong about CJ

We have a guy coming in next year that has a similar game to Freddy. Sheppard
That may be true about Sheppard but, again, comparing a freshman to a senior just isn't the same. Sheppard will need time to adjust to college level while CJ already brings that senior experience and leadership which I feel is a big difference.

CJ is a junior, I think.

He is a redshirt Senior on UK Athletics site.

Yes. I see that. You are correct. I guess it depends on whether last year can be ruled a medical redshirt. He redshirted his first season at Iowa 2018-19, apparently.

Thanks for the correction.

KY statistics page shows him as a Junior. I guess it is incorrect.

CJ was in the 2018 recruiting class. His first season playing was 2019-20, indicating that he redshirted his freshman year. That means last year was his redshirt jr year, and this is his free covid year as a redshirt sr. As discussed, he can apply for a medical hardship waiver for another year next year.

My thought on CJ was that he didn’t show a lot of ring rust. How good he is, this game didn’t show us anything. The team we played was defenseless. We didn’t learn much. However it was nice to see CJ hit the court ready to ball.

He’s about what I figured. Said all season last year that he was the missing piece. He’s just an all around great ball player with an extremely high basketball IQ.

Between him and Reeves, we've definitely got 2 final-4 pieces. Those kids can flat out shoot.

Absolutely right and I’m loving having multiple shot makers! Not to mention: Wallace, Livingston, Adou and Toppin. To a lesser degree of course.

That’s true, but with most of these guys there’s no way to make that apples to apples comparison because they’re never here for their junior and senior years (I’m talking about the freshman studs, like the other day when you said you can’t compare junior Liggins to freshman Livingston …).

You’re not wrong, but all we can do is compare the guys when they’re actually here.
Fortunately Frederick did have a freshman year. We could just compare their freshman years?

Thanks for the clarification.
Lol and reading my own post, I muddied the water worse because I got something wrong. Typically you have 5 years to play 4, but because of the covid year not counting, he is now playing his 3rd season in 4 years (plus, he had the free covid year which was the 5th). He should be able to play next year with no waiver - it will be his 4th season playing out of 5 years that count.

He should be. You are comparing a freshman to a senior. I always chuckle when people on here do this.

It's like comparing lamb to delk when delk got the benefit of 4 years. Or murray to delk.
But that’s what we’re talking about. How good they were at UK. I really don’t care how good Herro is in the pros.

Yep, that's what I'm saying. Time at UK vs time at UK is really the only comparison that matters. How good Herro would have been as an upperclassman is really inconsequential.

He's not just a problem for opposing teams. He's a f&cking nightmare. Elite shooter who can drive & dish. I LOVE the fact that he values the ball and never turns it over. Smart, plays D, hell I could go on and on. What say you?

So far so 👍. Just hope he can stay healthy

He definitely will
It is way too early after one game to say how good CJ will be over the long haul. Will he stay healthy? I hope you are correct and he stays healthy but I don't think you can predict someone's future by one game.

I know folks wont like this... but CJ will be a better player at UK than Herro was.
I don’t know if he will or not. He’ll definitely be a better 3 point shooter. Herro was an average 3 point shooter. He was a very good shooter inside the arc

He is a basketball player not an athlete who plays basketball. He is sound fundamentally and it is a joy to watch him play. It is unfortunate that so many people on this board never got to see Coach Rupp and Coach Hall teams because both coaches had manny CJ Fredericks, and that was why Kentucky basketball was such a joy to watch and I am not talking about CJ’s race. I am talking about the fact that he is a great passer. He has great floor sense, he plays great Defense, and he can fill it up.

I’ve never been good at player comparisons but I’m going to try. And I’m not gonna do the white compare white thing. And yea for some reason it makes it harder. Gonzo, wherever you are, this buds for you.

CJ reminds of Archie Goodwin.

Unless the rules have changed, one can't request a so called medical redshirt until he has used all of his regular eligibility. Is he a covid senior? If so, I dont' think he can apply for a medical until after next year.

Did not realize that. I thought he could request it during the year. Thanks for the information.
