I keep reading on how Vanderbilt hasn't decided yet to test the NBA waters. How can he go to the combine or have any evaluation if he needs or is having surgery? With all those who have declared already or exploring going to the combine why would any NBA scout take their chance of being fired for recommending someone they can't currently evaluate and then missing on others? Was the surgery need just a rumor?

He won't have surgery until he is 100% he is currently only about 72 % maybe he can have it next week-end
I think he's deciding if he's willing to go regardless of his draft stock or how teams feel about him, or if he wants that first round guarantee.
For example, Harry Giles needed another surgery. Nerlens was coming off ACL surgery and couldn't test or play or anything. Kyrie Irving needed surgery for most of the NBA season this year.
So maybe the surgery he needs is just to clear things up permanently so that it's not a lingering issue down the road. Like cleaning up a knee with a scope. It doesn't mean he can't run until the surgery is finished.

I asked the same thing, in another thread. If he needs surgery, I would think that they would want it done asap, so that he may be able to play in the Bahamas summer games. Does anyone think he may be holding off, possibly hoping to work out at the combine? Even so, if he has to have surgery, I don't see a team wasting a draft pick, even a 2nd round, on someone who they are unsure of, as far as future injuries. I think he has to come back and prove that he is healthy before a team takes a chance on him.
Yeah, but, those guys were all lottery picks, and the teams were willing to use their pick to get them, and have them, down the road. We are talking about a kid who has not proven he has an outside shot, and is listed by ESPN as outside the 2nd round. How much could he improve his draft status, working out, injured? I just don't see them willing to take a chance on someone that cannot shoot, and has only played in 14 games, before getting hurt, again.
I have a funny feeling we do not know the whole story concerning Vanderbilt nor will we ever. Having said that, I do not see him on the team next year regardless of surgery. I hope my feeling is wrong.
The last day to declare for the draft is April 22. The combine is May 16-20, and the last date to pull your name, before having to stay in the draft, is May 30.
He's not going to the NBA regardless. His body of work, even though it showed great promise in certain areas, isn't nearly enough to gauge how he will fare in the League. He's just too much an unknown, a longshot, at this point. Imagine trying to sell his case to an NBA executive or an owner. That also doesn't necessarily mean he will return to UK, but it's more likely than not.
Whether he stays goes I really believe he will be a successful owner of Vanderbilt Chevrolet one day his lower body is not built for the long haul. If he stays we're lucky to get 10-15 games from him next year. I think cal maybe planning roster like he's not playing if he gives you a few games than it's a added bonus

Right. Which means he isn't going to get that feedback. That's why I said he's probably deciding if he's just going to go no matter the feedback or if he wants to come back because there are so many unknowns.

I think we will find out in the next few weeks though it does look good for him to return as I can see no scenario where he enters the draft without the chance to come back and that has passed. I think he is being forced to come back due injuries but it will end up helping him in the long run and us. When the surgery talk came out Jones and others did say it wouldn't be made known for a while .
Really with the test the waters deadline gone the only guy I worry about is PJ staying the draft though I guess WG could decide to hire an agent and enter the draft but end up overseas that seems less likely though.

If he leaves I am going to question whether he needs brain surgery or not. It would be a monumentally dumb decision. If your body can't hold up in High School or college it will be crushed in the league.
Not for underclassman. If he declares now he won’t be able to return per the NCAA
Not sure this is accurate. I thought they could go to the combine and then pull out of the draft. It would not make sense if this rule applied only to those who have used up their eligibility.
