I have enough points for flight and hotel where it could have been a free trip. I researched best restaurants in downtown Minneapolis and Indingena kept coming up so I checked out menu and website and the about section made me change my mind about the whole trip (along with the news the last 2 years).

At Indígena by Owamni, we have cut out colonial ingredients such as beef, pork, chicken, dairy, wheat flour, and cane sugar, instead highlighting products indigenous to the Americas. This approach offers a different story of American cooking by celebrating the amazing Indigenous diversity of the Americas.

We look at the world through a decolonized lens, and rebuilding Indigenous food systems takes knowledge, relationships, and sustained investment.

WTF is wrong with the people up there? I hope we beat their commie asses so damn bad.... 17 Minnesota

There’s restaurants like that everywhere. You really let that stop you from going?

You don't like the food genre of one restaurant so you are skipping it? I call BS. You were never serious about going. They have some great food in Minneapolis, BTW. You could have titled this "Fox News Scared Me Once and I Can't Get Over It."

Dude... you can probably find a restaurant like that in basically every large city in the country, including most in the south. There are multiples here in Omaha, and hopefully that won't keep our fans away.

Just stay at a different hotel.

I have no problem with American Indian culture, etc. but something like this is ridiculous unless it's just a novelty.
So General Custer's wife commissions a painting of his final thoughts and beliefs after his death and the artist presents her with a painting of cows with halos and an a bunch of indians making love in an orgy. Custer's wife was infuriated. How could you paint this in memory of my husband and his last thoughts? The artist says, "Ms Custer, those are your husband's last thoughts. Holy cow look at all those 17in Indians"

So you let that alone keep you from going? Interesting. Politics is ruining everything now.
I agree it's ruining everything, like searching for a place to get good food without politics being smeared into your face.

Read the description - the whole thing was written in language that makes sure everyone knows that white men are colonizers and evil. So what FreeDawg did here is help the indigenous restaurant owner with his marketing effort. If there are any evil whities who post on this board, he's doing what the guy wants - making sure they don't set foot into his restaurant.

Well done, FreeDawg. It was nice of you to help the guy get his own words out to more people.

The guy wrote in the ultra thinly-veiled description of his restaurant about "decolonizing" food... and FreeDawg is in the wrong for noticing what he wrote and choosing not to go. Makes sense.

Yes? Not "wrong" for not going to that particular restaurant, but even the conservatives here are calling him silly for boycotting an entire city because they happen to have the restaurant. What does he expect them to do, shut it down and arrest the owner?

I didn't say anything about him canceling the trip because of it. I thought that part was probably a joke.

The whole thing is a classic case of Face Tattoo Syndrome.

Even if literally every single restaurant in the city fits that description, they're still a capitalist enterprise and by definition not "Communist."
Listen dork, every bit needs an angle. I would have thought my effort to redo Hit Em Up lyrics and a KT photoshop would give it away but here you are wanting to debate capitalism. I bet you'd debate monetary policy before sects

Ok well if it was just a bit then disregard.

Maybe we can all have a SPS victory celebration dinner at Indigina Saturday night.

What constitutes a "colonial ingredient" and just what are they left with?

Are you allowed to salt this squirrel if you don't live by the sea or a salt mine?

So don't go to Indigino then. Although I think it would be interesting and probably would go. I'm pretty sure good restaurants in Minneapolis won't be a problem.

FWIW, it’s run by an Indian (I can’t spell Indi Genius, I descend from colonizing dirt farmers) nonprofit organization, which is appropriate as I’m sure profit is an afterthought (even in Minneapolis)

Good lord I hope we are celebrating a victory.

Not for nothing, but Indigina sounds like a cross between indigestion and angina. Sounds delicious!

Living in a popular snowbird destination I’ve really had a lot of interaction with our midwestern brethren. The Minnesota snowbirds are without a doubt the worst. Wisconsin people are hit and miss. South Dakota and Iowa folks are good people. They are so far left liberal and entitled that it’s really surprising to me and they are genuinely confused as to why the rest of the country doesn’t agree with them. They’re borderline cultish.

I’ve actually watched a piece on the Sioux chef (hilarious) that either runs or inspired this place, Sean Sherman.

I applaud and find interesting what he’s doing in cooking with ingredients that were available in North America before European colonization.

What I don’t like is the wording they chose to express what they’re doing. Just 17ing unnecessarily holier than thou.

Don't let the haters get to you. It is not so much concerning that there are people trying to help indigenous groups economically. But it is very concerning that there is so much hate for 'colonizers', which we all know what they're talking about.

It's just like how there wasn't much concerns for say, Kapernick's support of BLM or whatever. Most people's problem with him was that he disrespected the flag and country by kneeling.

I share that concern. There's more and more people wanting this stuff everyday, whether it's anti-police or what. I mean, what do they really want? A non-colonized non-policed society? Just a free-for-all? This mindset is so incredibly 17ing stupid and ironically comes from a place of privilege. The only reason you can voice those concerns is because we lived in a colonized, policed society.

Trying airing these grievances in 1830 on the western frontier. You'd get scalped and eaten.

Indigena ? So indigenous persons ? Chippewa or Sioux ? Hopefully not the indigenous Somalis of Somalisota. I wonder if the chefs are birthing persons and the waiters are all non birthing persons? Just to throw off the colonial patriarchy
