We’re more talented, deeper, and playing our best ball of the season, barely falling to Penn State on the road, before thrashing a #9 Maryland team. When you come down to the end of the season, it’s guard play, which ultimately determines the outcome of games, and this is where I think we have a big advantage. In the first matchup in the RAC, our guards vastly outplayed theirs with McConnell leading the way with 16 points.
McConnell hasn’t played well recently, but others have picked up the slack, with Baker, Mathis, and most notably Jacob Young Making significant contributions against a tough Maryland team. Our guards demonstrated to be fearless in attacking the rim against Maryland’s future NBA tree Smith. This will serve us well, when our shots are not falling, and is the biggest reason why I think this team is playing on another level, to go along with our tough defense and rebounding.
Are we perfect? No. Our free throw shooting hasn’t been that great on the season. There are many times where I have not been happy with our shot selection, because we continue to take bad shots early in the shot clock at times.
that has been offset by our ability to attack the rim, play tough defense, and outshoot our opponents.
I expect to see a hard fought game today, with tournament intensity.
