Ever thought this is what he’s doing this year, transitioning to a team of players that will mostly return? Gotta live though the pain of that transition if that’s what he’s doing.

That's what I was hoping, but when some of your sophomores are stuck on the bench while freshmen take their minutes, it looks like he is starting to give up on the older guys and worried about making the freshmen with better draft outlooks look better. He always seems to do that since he has been here. The guy with the higher ceiling in the draft gets the benefit of the doubt more often than the experienced guy.

I think Briscoe was the exception to that rule. It seemed like it was Cal's personal project to get Briscoe to the NBA. Especially after failing to do so after year one. How many times would it take of him stepping out of bounds in a game before he would get pulled? I rarely recall him ever getting pulled for mistakes.

If Cal really is building for the future instead of the now then he would be smart to announce it to the fans. Let us know that with the possible end of the one and done rule coming that he is going to start recruiting more multi-year players. So we might have some growing pains while trying to build up the experience level of the team. I think that would give him more goodwill with the fans that are frustrated with the play.

Cal has won HIS NC...he can do whatever he wants . It's become all about getting guys to the league and changing lives for him.

Well Tubby had 6 seasons of 9 or more losses and 9 years with no championship after winning it his first year. Cal is potentially about to have his 6th season of 9 or more losses and 7 years since he won a title. He does have 2 Final Fours since the title that helps, but also an NIT that Tubby never had. So he definitely is heading into rough waters.

You do if you are smart. The game changes and good coaches change with it instead of becoming a niche coach for a few years. Coach K stated that he had no interest in one and done players. After Cal started having success with it to Coach K's credit he changed. Now Cal has to realize that the way he's doing things isn't working anymore and he needs to change. If the game changes over a period of a decade you can't call yourself a good coach if you don't have the ability to adapt. Part of his problem is his insistance on pounding the ball inside instead of shooting 3's like Golden State. That's the way most teams are playing but again Cal isn't adjusting. He's stubbornly playing a style built for 10 years ago and getting his *** handed to him.

K swallowed his pride and adjusted to one-and-dones.

Who would ever of thought it, right? Whatever happened to "we don't play Cbb, we ARE college basketball." Getting humbled can be gut wrenching when you are that narcissistic.

I really like that dribble drive he runs.....oh wait! That was just more Cal horse **** marketing to get good point guards here. He hasn't run a dribble drive offense since he's been here
No, he really ran it at Memphis. It was beautiful to watch, especially that 2008 team. He didn't have dominant centers there that he's been getting them here. I'd give anything to run that offense because you either score at the basket, get fouled, draw an extra defender thus easy packs, or get a wide open 3. And it was a constant attack mode on offense. This horn set he runs year after year here is garbage.

All these 5 star players, these elite shooters. And got beat by an unranked 5-3 team. When your whole offsense relies on guys being able to drive and dish while everyone else stands around, you get beat when you can’t hit shots or drive the ball. His O scheme has apparently been figured out.
Please tell me what it is then? I still don't know.

I believe that is the question Cal needs to ask himself. Is he coaching a college team to win a title or is he just creating a D League team to get players to the NBA.

Well said. A lot of dopey chicken littles in this thread suddenly now pretending they weren't.

Lol, for sure. There’s one poster in particular in this thread who said he put me on ignore for calling him out over his incessant negativity.

He is literally calling for Cal to retire in this thread, but now you would think he’s been on board all along. Probably thinks he rallied the troops.

It’s best he retire. For both parties. Without a final four this year... it’s gonna get uglier as the fan base divides even more. And no coach comes back from a divided fan base... so it’s best to just rip the band aid off fast so both can move on

Haha. Some of the stupid people have solved the saw/seen challenge and believe they are the voice of the program.

Created a monster that is now eating him! He no longer can get the best of the best and that is the only way you can do what he wants...he is not a good enough coach to do this . Nobody probably is, but he created this and now it is eating him. Honestly, I don't know how you turn it around at this point. Now if K leaves after this year maybe it will.

You need to follow the conversation better because my post was based on conditions if the season didn’t get turned around .. so far it’s been turned around

Cals no longer being emo cal and we’ve played light years better than when that post was made

You seem to be either an idiot that doesn’t know how time works

That was based on if he didn’t turn the season around and stayed emo cal .

He turned the season around quickly ....

Compare it to my posts the last two weeks which I’ve been a sunshine pumpers and realize that everything changes depending on what’s happening at the time of these posts are made

Because People talk about future scenarios. If it’s ok for people to talk about the future best outcomes then it’s ok to discuss what if the worst happens too

Also I was only talking about how a lot of fans would of turned if this season was a major disappointment and how when there is that big of a divide coaches rarely if ever recover from that much fan negativity.

You have no basis for your statements regarding fans. I'll sign up Cal for 10 more years right now with no chance to remove him from the role.

If we lost 11 games and in the sweet 16 again and lost most of our players. You know a large portion of the fan base would turn on the one and done. Cal will never change it so that in turn means the fans would start turning on cal for not changing.

And you know this how? You are chatting on a forum with many quick twitchers like yourself, you do not have a good pulse on the whole fanbase.

""He can do whatever he wants".

Signed -

Tubby Smith
Tubby came no where close to recruiting like Cal. Like I said , I'd K retires after winning it all this year the pendulum will swing back. I think that is actually our only hope.

Because it’s obvious. Just like after possibly if not probably losing to Alabama today this board is gonna be negative again because it’s easy to predict human nature of being upset at losing

And losing this game doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of the season, and I'd say the same thing to those other folks. You speak in absolutes, something something darkside?
