I support him because he is currently our coach. I think he makes some bonehead decisions and slow to pull the trigger on the obvious. I also think he is ultra high character and a really good guy. Maybe too good a guy.

I would go to bat for him big time if he were more aggressive to address things when not going well (QB play IN THE PAST and Rossi in the current).

I am not calling for his head for several reasons. Mostly not my job. I wish him and the team nothing but a return to the positive and success. (doesn't mean I won't call him out on stuff)

and yes..winning does matter as does the quality of play.

Sounds good and I agree, we should be able to go 2-3 deep and not skip a beat, but I'm just not sure if we can. Some positions - no doubt - so let's hope it's the right ones this week! [cheers] (mine is full of water after the past 2 weeks!)
If your secondary is young and inexperienced, the best way to help them is to make the opposing QB uncomfortable...the scheme has to be based on that for this week and for this year against opponents not named ARMY or KANSAS, stopping the big play and keeping the play inftont of you will result in nothing more than getting your *** kicked

If you truly support KF, the win loss record this year should be irrelevant to you.
His defensive backfield is in jail, his best D linemen is out, one of the best WR's in the nation is out, three new OL starters, new TE, new QB
Your support has to be based upon you think he's recruiting well and we will be good moving forward.
If you're playing a wait and see game of how many wins we collect this year...IMO you really don't fully support KF.
You can be a huge RU fan and fanatically support RU football and not truly fully support KF in the way I described

This is a great post whether to anyone who supports Flood or not. Dealing with adversity often makes people stronger and I want to see how he comes out of this crisis in terms of better controls on inhibiting program type issues, team leadership from coaches/players, and how the team performs on the field. For instance I look at the WSU game this way....it sucks that we lost. But considering decimation of the Defensive Backfield, loss of our best D-Lineman, recent player arrests, extreme negative media attention, internal email investigation, 2 Freshman at QB........the team fought hard and came back in the game and likely would have won if not for Questionable Penalties that eliminated 2 TDs. That said - I continue to support Flood. Things that might change my mind are if the email issue turns out to be a pattern of ethical violations or if he loses the team (meaning they Tank against reasonable competition) or give up against superior competition.

Support Flood as it relates to off field things, as I think this has been a hat trick out of his control. Good man, rooting for him to succeed here. But it comes down to winning and improving in his job, that is what I will evaluate on. First year in B1G was sound for us, this year? lot of obstacles, but give this year and next to Kyle.

This . Nothing shows KF is a B1G level Head Coach.
And the lack of discpline demonstrated by the team over the last 3 weeks shows he has lost control.

Support the team, of course.
It seems a huge amount of posters are back on the KF bandwagon because the charges against CL were only a simple assault.

...oh, I don't totally blame Flood. I really don't know how he deals with these guys. I have a feeling it is a little loose from what I read and hear here....BUT this is 90% on the players... I just wonder if the environment creates some risk taking ... Flood doesn't seem to come down with the hammer...even on the sidelines I'd like to see more fire (like towards the refs on some of those screw jobs last week)...

This question of "support" is a tough one...the way I interpret this is that if you truly support Flood, you believe that he is THE GUY that is going to take this program from decent to good to great on the FIELD... all of the "good guy," FAMILY, and values stuff is superfluous. As decent human beings, I think we can all agree that the core values stuff is important and Flood has that market cornered. But the bigger question in my mind is whether the man can win and win at the highest level. Some of you think he can, but I personally don't think he has the necessary tools in his toolbox to be a great coach.
So, if by "support", you mean that you think Flood is the that guy to bring us to new heights, I say that I do not support him. IMO, "support" is the wrong word to use here. I support good men who have great intentions. I support strong families and commitment to core values. But I want to win and I want to win now.

I support Flood, even though I don't agree with all his decisions.

I don't blame Flood for Players making wrong decisions.

I support Rutgers Athletics and Rutgers University, but wish sometimes the Administration would do the same.

I support him.

Coach Flood has my full support....he is a good coach, and getting better....and he is a great man of the highest moral values.

Sucks that his players keep making him look bad.

I hope he can surprise some people this week and knock off Penn State even without his best Offensive player, and best defensive player.

Tall order, though.

He has dealt with the off-field chaos, directly, and will have the next man step up
this week at PState.

I like the way he has kept the focus on the players available, and let's be
prepared to win the next game mentality.

Still has my support.

Neither is his handling of quarterbacks or Hotmail or team captains, etc.

Support should not have to be blind.

Agree. However your mention of his QBs, email, captains, etc, references things that happened in the past. You can already take those past events into your assessment of whether you support him or not.

But Zap's definition, which indicates that if you truly support Flood, then his W-L record is irrelevant, is based on future events. By his definition, if you truly support Flood, there is no difference if the future produces a 2-10 record or a 10-2 record. You would not call for Flood to be replaced, even if his final record were 2-10.

I can't buy into that definition of support. If the team goes 2-10 this year, I would want a new coach; I wouldn't give Flood a pass because of the recent off-the-field events. If the team goes 10-2, I would want to keep Flood around, despite recent off-the-field events.

Presently in the football season yes but TBD in wins and losses and how competitive Rutgers is against the B1G elite @ seasons end.

The above is all about recruiting and Floods recruiting is mediocre to poor. I do not see Floods Canadian pipeline panning out log term, and if Flood cannot recruit 5-10 top 20 NJ players yearly this program will go nowhere fast. Rebuilding? A yearly process because Floods 2-3 star red shirt freshman recruits stand on the sidelines in sweat pants every game, whilst most 4-5 star recruits would be ready to play now. If Flood does not start pulling in some top NJ talent soon I will not be renewing my season tickets to watch Rutgers lose to winning teams by 40 points every other week.

Future HC? Schiano and his staff would always land some top NJ talent and Schiano is available.I would have to think he would coach Rutgers in the Big Ten for the right $. gotta chuckle at the head coaches some people think will come and coach here.

Is it far fetched for you to believe some people just plain don't think he can get the job done?
Why does have to go back to GS, or getting what you ask for? Or anything other than they don't think he's a good coach?
For the record I haven't decided yet, and I'm rooting like crazy for him.

I still support RUTGERS. As I've said when Hill, Rice, Pernetti and Schiano were being discussed as to whether you were with them or not, they are all temporary caretakers. It is RUTGERS that will remain. The issue is will their continued employment be in the best interests of RUTGERS.

On these boards there are family, friends and fans of coaches, qb's, position players and administrators. Some also swear allegiance to Rutgers, some do not. Swearing fealty to Flood (or Jordan or Herman or anyone) is not my thing. Supporting any coach and RU player sure, that is in essence one and the same as supporting RUTGERS. But where that support is not in RUTGERS' interest then there is an issue.

Some with long memories will recall certain assistant coach's family members coming here and arguing with posters. And some with hs allegiances shouting down any who disagree with their interests. The interest of concern was with the coach and friend or hs allegiance , not with RUTGERS' best interests. Believe we still see that today in many topics.

If Flood's continued employment is best for RU then he is to be supported. We have many unknown issues and investigation results still out there. While it seems that with Christie and Herman statements Flood is remaining, there is a bona fide issue as to whether this is in RU's best interests (forgetting for a moment coaching or game result issues). How this shakes out on and off the field will determine whether such support is in RU's best interests. It will be interesting as ever to see this support doled out on the pro coach or pro player etc vs pro RUTGERS. It can coincide, but it may not.

I wish we had a better head coach. I do not think Flood or his staff is capable of competing in the B1G. However, based on current RU leadership and financial challenges, I expect them to keep Flood as long as politically possible to delay the investment needed to compete in the B1G.

I think Flood's ceiling is probably 4 wins in the B1G. Apparently that's good enough for RU leadership and most of our fan base at this time.

The promise of the 2006 season seems like ancient history at this point. I don't see the Barchi/hermann/flood team getting us back to those heights anytime soon.

Supported Kyle Flood before and now... as a program you support someone who actually cares about his team...young people through out America do some very DUMB things...those that want Flood fired now didn't want him as head coach nor Julie as AD...too many trolls on this board ...now we have a group who never set foot inside HPSS texting about all types of inuendo......I'm not happy what has occurred but anywhere else this would be page 6...Leonte Caroo is a good guy...never a problem... he now must wait to see how much DIRT the media can uncover...I hope we see him back but these things take weeks if not months.

I give credit to Flood for the fact that, during yesterday's presser, he 100% owned up to the fact that he knows that, and fully understands why, this "reflects poorly on him," when asked about "all" the recent events. KUDOS to Kyle for taking the high road and not sidestepping the question or attempting to spin things. [thumb2][thumb2][thumb2]

I support him. We have a local press that seems to be established for the very purpose of destroying Kyle Flood. And the dirtiest thing they have on him is that he tried to help a troubled player earn a better grade.

There is a reason why everyone respects this guy so much.

If you are upset that the future 4-star busts of NJ don't pick RU, build the man a 100k stadium and a university with amenities that are in the same universe as our more successful recruiting competitors. Then evaluate him in relation to those places. I see a team that has no quit in it. Flood's our guy for the time being.

Otherwise you are leveling the house in hopes of rebuilding the same exact house. People don't do that.

Unless you want to bring in a dishonorable cheating type. Perhaps even someone who will sleep with recruits' moms...
Why? We can evaluate him in relation to Schiano. In that case he loses.

I don't think that is beyond debate. Schiano accomplished essentially nothing in his final five seasons here...even with better recruits in a lousy conference. Schiano could not even win.

Well, a lot of our fans are crazy. The one talking about the next level are delusional. We will be struggling to stay ahead of Maryland and Indiana. We could have overtaken Penn State and Maryland if Flood was the one since Franklin is a mistake, but Flood is a bigger mistake. Flood plain can't recruit. Rutgers fans has too accept that we are 5th in the Big Ten East and will maybe be last or 4th every couple of years. NW, Iowa, Indiana, Purdue, Indiana fans accept where they are at, Rutgers fans will accept it after a few years. Penn State is no better boat as long as they have Franklin.
