As most of you know I haven't been on here a lot lately and I normally don't do this. I will be stepping away till about the middle of November. I am checking into a facility for drug/alcohol abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse & PTSD. All of which I have suffered. I'm not asking for sympathy, empathy, or pity. Just your thoughts and prayers. GBR & see ya by Thanksgiving.

Absolute best of luck to you, I am nearing 5 years alcohol free and it quite literally changed my entire outlook on life, best decision you'll ever make, guaranteed!

The best advice I can give...don't be intimidated or get into your own head about "how hard" it could be. You are over the hardest part, admitting you have a problem and opening up about it. Now is the fun part, reaping all the benefits from addressing all these distractions in life. It's all up hill from here my friend!

Thoughts and prayers for you Sparky and know you’re never alone and all of us are here for you!!
Well said. Wish you the very best my friend. Not sure what your circumstances are nor do we need to. But it takes a strong person to admit that they have a problem....esp especially on here!!! But you have conquered over half of the battle.

Again, my thoughts and prayers and best wishes to you and your family. Will be thinking of you every time I sauce!!

Sending strength and prayer your way. Lean into the help, you are wise for this first step of going there.

All the best, Sparky. Good facilities will have access to good counselors, and those can be supremely helpful. Be as open and honest as you can with yourself and your counselors and a lot of good can come of that process.

Haven't been through the same things but have done a few rounds of counseling, mostly related to struggles with ADHD and the self worth issues that can come with it. Had to learn to let go of that very Nebraska thing of making a big show of how pissed you are at yourself when you screw up. That song and dance only keeps you in a rut.

It doesn't serve you to beat yourself up and ultimately the people you love don't want you to punish yourself either. Yesterday is gone and you can't un-screw it. You can only apologize to those affected by your actions and begin a new streak of good decisions.

Your journey will involve forgiving people, don't forget that you will be one of those people. But it's not a baptism, you don't say you forgive yourself and you're healed forever. It's a choice you have to make over and over to let go of what you can't undo and make the next, right choice.

Godspeed.

I initially thought somebody hijacked your account and made a fake post and I was expecting this to be pulled down, obviously my initial gut reaction was wrong. Best of luck to you Sparky, see ya on the other side!!

Good luck. As a dude who’s wife is a therapist, I am one of the biggest supporters of getting help. No shame in it. Go get it. We’re rooting for you.

I'm about 4.5 years alcohol free. I assure you it gets easier. You even get to the point where you can't find one positive in drinking. None!

Just remember: you are a lot stronger than you think you are. All things are possible through Him. Please remember that.

When it gets tough and you feel like you can't go any further, wherever you are, drop to your knees and pray. Know that he is there with you and he loves you no matter what you've gone through/are going through.

I don't want to come off as "preachy"; but similar advice helped get me through some of the toughest times of my life.
