Damn the feeling of being the “IT” program and “Cool” school is dead. From 2009 to 2015 we were the cool guys or bad guys to other programs and I miss that deeply! Damn remember the John Wall dance and song holy **** that was awesome. Calipari had that magic and swag too. Our players had swag too and we knew nobody was better then we were on or off the court. I remember Calipari and Pitino walking into Bullitt East and people went crazy for Calipari like he was some type of major A list celebrity. Hell even Pitino looked star struck lol.

Do we ever get back to that?

I believe aau coaches have alot to with our recruiting and how UK is being perceived among young players right now since most if not all work for shoe companies. We will get it back, everything is cyclical.

Or maybe the perception is the fans are whacked and overtop with expectations that they don't want to play here. Case in point, the reaction of the fans over the loss this weekend. Cal may have not have lost his touch, maybe it is a lot to sell to players on dealing with us. Maybe us fans need to take a look in the mirror.

The fans are merely a reflection of the basketball they are watching. It ain't pretty.

What, you mean you wouldn't want to miss a shot or not play perfect and have Bob from Pikeville attack you on social media LOL.

I think the "UK isn't for everyone" makes it easy to say no to playing here.

We need to show the top guys we want and need them badly.

Reflection or not, our reactions to losses or bad play have been scrutinized by haters and media members for years, it can't help our chances in recruiting, in this age of social media, to criticize players and coaches the way we do is not good and could be used against us. I have always said that kids are way to soft now days, remember UK is not for everyone.

It stinks that we were only able to hang one banner while we were the flavor of the month.

As has been posted already, spinning this to some how be the crazy fans fault is fake news.
Lol that’s the best way to put it we were Flavor of the month!

We have got to get it back again.

But he's right even though he probably shouldn't be telling recruits that. Let them learn the hard way because when it is time to play with big boys in the league you damn well better be able to accept criticism. Especially in places like New York or Philly.

Dear "I'm so above it all because I live in Louisville"
Is there anyway, I don't know in the Spirit of Christmas, that you can refrain from putting down an area in your own state? Last time I checked ignorance and rabid fan bases are included in the WHOLE Commonwealth.
Sincerely,

[laughing]

It’s pretty bad. I just imagine a group of men gathering by their phones, posting on here while consoling each other. Tissue boxes scattered around, wet Kleenex’s everywhere.

We still are a “cool program” We literally have two top 10 borderline top 5 guys inked for next year. Never falling below #2 in the recruiting classes ... have some perspective. Sheesh.

Yeah, plus I think he means if you want to come here and be the "man" then you aren't going to be happy. You aren't going to avg 20t ppg here. No use having turmoil

There's a difference between being "a" cool program and being the trendy "IT" program.

Were were it between 2010-15. Now Duke is.

Agreed, can’t stay the “IT“ program, no matter what, every year. Someone else will replace duke in a couple years as well.

I always hate trying to “match up” with Duke the last few years as it’s now , 100%, been proven they cheat (moreso Capel? Who knows ) to obtain their players

First off it was a joke, it wasn't putting anyone down, don't get your panties in a bunch. Next I went to EKU and have friends all over the commonwealth. I spend a ton of time in The Red River Gorge. Finally Pikeville that I used, (Could have been any place) is where my best friend lives and I love it there and visit often. Soooooo maybe chill out a little since it was a joke and your trying to make me out to be a Ky hater. Nothing could be farther from the truth. I have family from Harlan. I could go on and on. LMFAO!

I agree with this, and I believe it has a lot to do with the assistants. We had the "cool" assistant in Orlando who could build the relationship with top recruits and then Cal could seal the deal. We do not have the "cool" assistant anymore to build the initial relationship and we need that badly IMO.

The fans wanted tubby gone......... and bcg...... it was chaos in the fandom... And we got Cal... and Wall and Cousins.. etc etc etc.

So for the love of intelligence and give us some faith in humanity...... dont blame a downwards trend on the damn fans.

Well for one thing, being from this side of the state the joke gets old. I guess because we are always the butt end (no pun intended) So yeah, I tend to get a little defensive. So I apologize for getting heated. And my panties will stay firming implanted buddy. Dare anyone to take the job of getting them out.

The point is you don't know who your talking to. I have tons of ties all over the eastern part of the state. Love all of Ky, love hiking, fishing, camping, etc... So I love the rural parts of our state. My grandmother was from Harlen Ky. Once again it was a joke and could have been anywhere in the state, but using Louisville with them being our rival wouldn't have exactly worked as well for kidding around. The whole point was kids don't want a stranger telling them what he should be doing or grading him, but that's not too funny. With all the negativity on this board I try to lighten things up a little from time to time.

And again, I apologize for jumping to conclusions. It comes from being insulted by more people in my state than out of it. And I get your point about the kid. And yes this board could use some lightening up. Our fan base is so intense only Alabama could understand and sympathize.

It just doesn't matter......nothing would help. Even a 40-0 season would bring out the bottom feeders....(I could name a half dozen posters that would still gripe and loudly why it isn't enough...)

The fans are a part of the problem, Nike sending players to Duke, and schools paying players all over! It’s a combination of things!

Fans are absolutely 100% not a problem. Name one situation of a player or coach refusing to go to a school because of the fans
Dude they are an issue when they’re trashing players online! If you don’t think they’re part of why some players leave when they shouldn’t! Would you wanna play for a bunch of spoiled entitled fans who trash you online! While doing it for free! I’d bolt too!
