We have talent but aren’t the most talented. We have decent shooters but aren’t the best shooting team. But what we do have is a team. A team that plays together and doesn’t care about individual success. A team that clearly plays for each other, that is well coached and brings it every game.

Pike will continue to get better and better players but the most important thing has been built in this program. The ethos and identity of effort and togetherness. From my experience, those are the teams that have the most success.

They are also the easiest to root for.

We are hard to defend. We might not have that alpha as they said in the telecast but we have a bunch of pieces that fit. Any given night it’s someone else who steps up.

Many coaches believe in trying to take the opponents best player out of it and make the others beat you. Who is that on Rutgers? For as offensively challenged as we might be at times, we just dropped 10 more than the average of the best D team in the league.

We win with D, but our O is good enough now to keep us in games. This team battles.

We should all appreciate this team while we can. It’s a great group of guys that have tons of chemistry. These guys all have a chip on their shoulders and are hungry. That’s what makes this team special. As we get better and better talent, I fear some that “eye of the tiger“ may not be as prevalent.

This is the 2006 Football team in Basketball form.

And that is a very high compliment.. for any of you youngsters.

And that team was essentially a defensive master-class where we did not find an offense until after Game 5.

Defense squeaked us out win after win... and that defense flew to the ball on every snap and that was the one difference between it and the prior season's team. They just worked so well together.

We love that team and will never forget them and the same goes for this basketball team.

I think you are spot on. Of course you never know when you sign a recruit how they will want to play D, but as we do get "better" talent, it has to be mandatory that the coaches emphasize and instill the same defensive intensity mentality with the new recruits for each game of every year, just as this lovable team is doing.

This team makes us very proud and we love them.
