I Love This Team

It's been a frustrating last few years to be a Kentucky fan. After the initial magic of the Cal era, the teams since the 38-1 team have all frustrated me to no end. I loved Ullis/Murray and Fox/Monk/Bam, but even those teams had glaring holes (namely inside). The last couple of years in particular were rough. We played stupid basketball. I'm not sure I've ever disliked a Kentucky player more than Isaiah Briscoe. Low effort, low IQ basketball.

This team has made it fun to be a UK fan again. They play the game the right way. They share the ball. They can shoot. They protect the ball. They can beat you inside, off the dribble, or from deep. On top of that, they are all like-able guys.

Nothing really insightful here, just wanted to say cheers. I have a feeling we'll be cutting down some nets this year. Go Cats!

Uh Briscoe gave his heart and everything else on the court. Talk about his talent if you will but questioning what you did only makes you ignorant.

This team grew up over the last two weeks.
This team has all the parts to win it all.

Exactly. Briscoe was a freaking warrior. And WTF is the OP talking about ? UK just 2 years ago was an amazing team and probably wins a title if the refs do their job against UNC. The last few years overall have been freaking amazing to be a UK fan. UK has had incredible seasons in 2010 , 2011 , 2012 especially , 2014 ( at the end ) 2015 ( best season ever until the very very end ) and 2017 . 2016 wasn't bad but wasn't great. Last season started decent , was horrible in the middle but by the end the team won the SEC and made a sweet 16 . SO last season was up and down and I will buy frustrating but that is one season and really only the middle of that season. Add to the fact UK players just own the NBA and it sweetens the deal ( unless you don't actually care for the players and just what they can do for you ) . This is just an odd post. If you can't be happy with seasons like all but 2 Cal has had you just can't be happy as even the best programs average 1 title every 10 years or so.

But I do agree this team , along with Monk/fox/ bam team are my 2 favorite Cal teams due to how great the chemistry is . Those guys ( monk/fox/bam ect ) cared more about wearing this jersey then any kids ever under Cal IMO . We see alot of that in Johnson and Herro and crew. The way PJ was taken leadership out on the court the last 4 games has been amazing to watch. He is completely controlling games and doesnt even have to score much.

Knowing the process hasn't had me frustrated as much as how few calls we seem to get at home vs. other teams when they are at home. There's no rule that freshmen have to foul more than older players. Sometimes yeah but it sure seems wildly inconsistent at least in Rupp.

I was sort of with the guy until trashing Briscoe. That guy was 100% hustle.

Not all but most of the time if not all the time you can tell the motivation of a post is nefarious if it ends bashing a player. There is no need for that. Even those bashing Green showed themselves having an agenda whatever the agenda was.

I have a trusting nature but lately trolls are getting more tricky. (I won't call what they do smart.) (I am also not calling the OP a troll. He will prove that anyway if he is...)

He may in deed mean well but you can't do good if you step on others while you try doing good, it is counterproductive...

Can you honestly provide 3 legitimate reasons as to why you hated Briscoe more than any other player ? That seems quite intimate and dramatic.

Any fan that does not understand that a 38-1 season is very special and does not happen very often is pretty stupid to not understand that it’s not happening every year.

I understand that a 38-1 team is a very special thing. I was just saying that it seems like our teams haven't been enjoyable to watch since that team.

And as far as Briscoe goes, I probably shouldn't have thrown that shot in there but it was just my honest opinion. Sure you all love him now but I'd be willing to bet if we went back to that season on here most of you all would be saying the same thing. He talked waay too much for what he brought to the court. He was a greedy player and took shots away from more talented teammates, and he always seemed like he didn't want to be here. Bash away.

If you feel like you shouldn’t have given that shot, why did you add to it? Seems to me that you like to bash the kid.

I was never a fan of Briscoe either. I don't recall him not giving effort though. Just couldn't throw the ball into an ocean :victory:

Briscoe is one of only three triple doubles in our storied history! Yea, it might been in the same season as Fox’s but, it’s still special! The kid fought his butt off while he was here!

Warms my heart to open a thread, read a Briscoe bash, and then not have to defend him because others already have.

If I can just get some help with Archie, I might push back the gray hair another ten years.

I agree with your post OP, except for the Briscoe bash. Kid was all heart and hustle. Ill never forget his triple double and when he took it to Puke and Gracie Allen. I agree he wasnt a great shooter, but the guy played defense and was good around the rim for his size.

I'll focus on what I agree with here and the reason this team excites me. You've pinpointed a couple issues with some of our recent teams. On some we lacked a consistent post scorer. On a couple we lacked a consistent perimeter threat. Some teams seemed to lack mental toughness and leadership. One team just got pushed around and seemed to wilt when challenged. Another team lacked any real quality depth.

But this team has all the tools, especially now that they seem to have found themselves. We have interior scoring. We have strength. We have outside shooters. We have guys who can score back to basket or facing. We have a couple elite rebounders. We have shot blockers. We have guys who will play defense and can lock down man to man. (That was in doubt until recently) We have balanced scoring.

Now, we also have upside. I think Hagans has just scratched the surface. You take a guy like Baker too. He's just getting his legs under him. All he needs is a little confidence and he can be deadly. Quickley seems to be getting lost in the shuffle a bit, but he's a guy who also has tremendous potential. Down low I think Montgomery and Richards both are improving and still have great upside. All this to say, yes, I'm excited about this team because we have all the pieces to be a complete team.

Geez... Briscoe was a 12pt, 5 reb, 4 ast guy on a great team was always guarding bigger people on D and was brilliant finishing at the rim... I loved watching him compete and try to fight through his shooting woes.

I don't know Briscoe's IQ but I am not sure your IQ is high enough to register.

Yeah, because low effort and low IQ guys always make NBA rosters.

Dude played out of position the entire time he was here and we still have low IQ fans bashing him for stupid reasons.
