Same here. I mean, it makes so much sense to line up your guys where the batter is most likely to hit it. Should have always been that way.

The thing is, when it “doesn’t work”, it’s generally a single. If it forces a hitter with a high SL% to poke one the other way for a single, then it isn’t necessarily a bad thing. That kind of stuff doesn’t show up in the box score.

Exactly.

Also, people who wait for a single hit into the shift to say, “See the shift cost us” don’t understand it. It’s not intended to never allow a hit ever again. It’s intended to result in fewer hits than the standard alignment. Over a season this means fewer runs allowed which means more wins.
