Can we at least agree that the offside following the corner kick is stupid. It happened in the game last night. Seems you can line up in an offside position for the kick itself but once it is touched and starts bouncing around that player can then be offside.

I'll concede the breakaway type one where the offense is moving up field, but that one the players have no chance to get back onside once the ball is loose in the goal area.

I don't watch much soccer and know next to nothing about the strategy, not a hater at all. But damned if on the few occasions I watch soccer and something EXCITING happens, 80% of the time it's offsides.

No offsides on a corner, until after the first touch. But you can't just camp out inside the 6 while the ball gets knocked around. Got to be careful.

Off sides in general, they need to change the rule to your full body must be beyond the 2nd to last defender. Now it's just any body part.

Sweden had a goal called off last night because their guy had, maybe half of his hand or half a arm beyond the 2nd last defender.

The point is you can be there before the touch. If your allowed to be there, then you have no chance to get back after the first touch. You can't be careful.

I agree about the body length.

This is one of the reasons I don't like soccer. "Ok, let me let you get in front of me." I will cheer for the USA team but other than that, ehhhh... If you like the sport, that's great for you.

You can't let them be halfway past the defender and still be onsides without it drastically changing the game. If you can have a positioning advantage and still be onsides, then they have to play to stay between the offensive player and the goal.

I would personally be fine with no offsides once the ball is within the goal box, or really just even with the goal box until the defense clears it from the penalty area. Once they get inside the goal box, you should have to defend the goal until you get it away from the goal. But that may be too complicated to get that call right regularly with it being that close in.

While a refeeree, I got cussed by some Grandpa at a U12 games once because of this situation.

I called their team offsides because after the corner, the ball got knocked around but their kid stood near the GK and impeded the GK ability to get to a ball. Grandpa was fighting mad. Must have been his kid that scored.

Meh, I disagree but doesn't matter. Laws won't change.

Also I'd make the goal at least 9x9 or 10x10 to increase scoring. But a 10x10 would really raise the goals scored.

I do hate the “his hand was behind the defender” strict rule and wish it was something for solid like his foot or both feet were behind the defender’s feet.

I’d like to see the rule amended a little bit as quite a few goals are called back due to the narrowest of margins.

Like every sport some rules are just difficult to find what works best.

Not nearly as ridiculous as the sport's refusal to nix the running clock, but yeah, I don't get the offsides immediately following a corner too. It leaves zero time for adjustments, but whatever I guess

So are you ok in football that a defensive lineman is lined up offsides? Or that a wide receiver can take off down field before the snap?

There sure would be some exciting touchdowns if receivers could get a head start**

What happened in my opinion. Turkey left our guy high and dry on count. It can be done in as a defensive move if coordinated and i think it was last nite.

We get it man. You don’t like offsides. Thanks for another post about it. Maybe that will convince the billions of soccer fans who understand the rule and don’t complain.
Gotta set those billions right. I think in England they have a saying right now about how they hate it with the video review. Deep down they hate it too.

Offsides in soccer is one of the dumbest rules in all of sport. If you want to hang out by the opponent's goal to get an advantage on offense, you better be prepared to mitigate the downside of being down a defender on the other side.

They should do away with the rule all together.

If they did away with offsides it would look like a bunch of 5 year olds playing soccer in a church league stacked around the goals with a few kids running around with the ball in the middle. It’s not going to look like what you think it is.

Considering how their season is going they shouldn’t be allowed to wear their normal uniforms
