I like the overall program under Steve and what he has done for Rutgers and the basketball program. I just think that when he gets an opportunity he need to hire a motion offense assistant who can recruit. I really wanted him to hire MaConnell when he interviewed him a couple years ago. He worked at Princeton and I think he would have brought off the ball movement and at least some backdoor easy layup baskets that we seem to never get.

Macconnel is still an assistant at Princeton. In their most recent game vs Monmouth, Princeton’s ball movement was beautiful in first half and not so good in 2nd half as Monmouth made the proper adjustments and won the game.

Regarding the recruiting, he made what seemed to be big strides in NJ when he got Harper and Mulcahy, who I believe became 4 stars after Pike started recruiting them. Then, he followed with a legit big time recruit in Omoruyi. Then, he put back to back tournament teams together and now he doesn’t seem to get a sniff from the top NJ talent. Doesn’t make sense.

Our offense is fine...
1. We are seeing zones, motion offense is useless
2. We have a personnel issue. No one! No one! cpmplained about our offense early last year when we had 5 guys on the floor who can score and our shooting was good.

I like what I've seen from him through 5 seasons, but I think he's made a huge mistake through the first 5 games this year. Pikiell has been square pegging his offensive and defensive schemes he's won with into round holes. We don't have the personnel that he's had in 2019-20 or 20-21 to win that way anymore. He needs to fit his schemes to what his personnel can and can't do in 2021-22, strengths and weaknesses. That's what a successful winning coach does, I'll start to have doubts about his long-term future if he can t figure it out sooner than later, because the talent is there to win now.

apparently he didnt want to recruit over his initial guys, thats all I can think, maybe the better talent saw that Pike would be loyal to the previous guys for playing time, players want to play ASAP in todays game

That or he couldn’t. A 2 guard wasn’t coming to RU knowing there isn’t playing time.
