Won't bring more parity if you're not providing the teams (not just football) with a good NIL budget.

Umm, funny how you went there and skipped the salary part of the equation. They make significantly less for similar jobs because cost of living is different between the two areas.
Would you be willing to give up your right to earn money from your talents? No?

Not deflecting anything. I don't complain about not having this or that or anything. What I complain about is waste of resources and not getting return for those resources. Want more more more money money money with what doesn't seem like much oversight or wisdom in how it's used, just spend it to spend it and no idea on what you're getting back for it. It's across all of CFB and college athletics. I'm not one to subscribe to that.
I don't complain about we don't have money or this or that. I say figure out who to make it work with what you have. I don't bemoan anything except for waste and return on capital. I'm a 2nd generation immigrant and that skews a lot of my thinking for this stuff. We didn't grow up with a lot and the family had to make it work, get bang for buck, save on costs, have occasional small "extravagances" etc...and myself and siblings have done fine for ourselves thanks to our parents. It's not oh well we didn't have this or that compared to others around us and it's hopeless and we can't do anything and we'll never make it etc etc...no excuses or crutches just keep trying and working.
Many here thought the portal and NIL would bring about some apocalypse and everyone would be hoarding players and be farm teams etc... Nothing of the sort has happened at the P4 level at least and we see what's actually happened is the pool is wider from the top on down and things that haven't been done ever or in a long time are happening. Players want to play that's the theme we see. While they want money too, there's a balance between that and playing time for each individual and that allows for talent to spread out which is what we've seen too.
Revenue sharing is another step in that direction, more NIL or not. Teams (high status ones specifically) can't magically create playing time if it's taken up by other players. However, if you're not as flush with money you'll have the playing time attractiveness now plus some extra money incentive because of the revenue sharing piece.

There's a reason why Ohio St, Oregon and others have huge NIL budgets and can plug whatever roster gaps they have. Meanwhile Greg has to recruit mostly HS kids and hope more than half develop into college players.
But you keep going on and on while ignoring that many schools are getting returns on their dollars spent. Some are not but that happens in Corporate America too.
And I just looked up what someone with my job title makes in Lincoln, NE vs Piscataway, NJ. $3/hr difference. So kiss my ***. You really have no concept how the working man lives.
Sure I agree with that and of course some get returns but many don’t, probably more don’t than do. Main things for me are I’m not fan of waste and just throwing money at issues with the thinking that it’s some magic wand when it’s not. It’s helpful for sure and you’d rather have it than not but it can’t be a crutch to say it’s the source of any and every problem and that it will magically fix everything which isn’t true. I go on and on mainly to rebut that idea because it’s (NIL) essentially become a reflexive response to any and every problem.
I don’t complain about budgets for coaches or players or star ratings or whatnot. We are what we are and our limitations are what they are and we have to figure it out as best we can. The less you have the more resourceful, creative and wise you have to be. These days we’re seeing schools with less doing things they haven’t done before so that should provide hope not despair. I’m hopeful regardless of finances. Revenue sharing gives me a little more.
As far as businesss, many businesses don’t start with evertything set up for them. They have to figure it out and grow slowly and be smart with their resources or go bankrupt. Amazon didn’t start out with the resources of Walmart to become what it is today. They figured out their lane and niche and took it up from there.
Not sure what you do, but maybe 20 ago or so, I had a friend in FL doing the same thing I was doing, same title, same type of work, about the same years of experience, same size company. In NJ, I was making more than double his annual salary.
It’s not really disputable that certain areas of the country have much higher salaries and much higher cost of living. You can verify this on any number of job listing websites.
Good for you and your friend. There are plenty more of us non-paper-pushers working our asses off and paying more than our share of the freight, listening to fans with shore houses and country club memberships bellyache how expensive things are and can't give to dear old State U.
I visited the Ohio State board today. They will fire Day if they miss the playoffs with a team they invested $24M into. We have 1/8 of that budget. I understand your post is poking fun of threads and posters here.
The biggest issue is diluting ourselves into thinking we can compete with schools like them. Doesn’t mean we can’t beat them now and then but we’re who we are.
We don’t know what kind of President, than AD we might get. We don’t have the means to buy what we missed on recruiting. Our best players in this class, are cast offs from big schools. Because they didn’t improve on their sophomore season and tumbled in the rankings. I accepted our high water years will be 8-4. This season had everything lined up, we had a weaker schedule. Yet here we go struggling to find 2 more wins. Not mad or upset, I just don’t live Rutgers football. I come and watch, enjoy my time at SHI. Don’t think it the end of the world if it ends like the UCLA game did. Wisconsin was disappointing
I think this is a good post. It reflects the way I view Rutgers football now. Limited ceiling and need to take care of the chances when they come up. We clearly aren't this year, but I blame injuries for most of that. The bad coaching is inexcusable.
We cannot compete with the big teams in the conference but we need to maximize any value we get from any variable for all it's worth. And Al, even if 1/8 is not accurate, it's still easily 1/6 or 1/7 of their budget, and the point remains the same.
People con't care about RU the way they do at other schools. It is what it is. This is an expensive state to live in. People need to stop guilting others for not "doing more". My wife and I make good money and we're still cautious where it goes. I donate what I can, but I expect either results or perks for doing so. It's how it needs to be.
That would be great. I hate the current state of college football. NIL money is everything right now whether we like it or not.
We’re either going to provide the coach with the resources he needs to succeed, or we’ll need to continue to live with mediocrity, just as we’ve been doing for the last 150+ years. California is a more expensive state to live in. But USC fans find a way to get it done. We prioritize the things we care about.
The writing is on the wall. We will be living in mediocrity. It's not going to change without major winning on a small budget.

I’m not sure what you’re arguing about with others, but I’m not arguing with anybody. I’m not making a political statement or choosing any sides about anything.
I am merely stating the factual reality that high salaries and high cost of living are highly correlated across the country. If you go to construction estimate sites, you can also see that construction costs are higher in areas with higher incomes. So I don’t think the correlation is limited to a particular type of work.

Removing NIL doesn’t return college sports to amateur status.
It just makes the athletes “amateur” in a professional sport.
Since when does “amateur athletics” include BILLION dollar media contracts, cross country flights for weekday games, tens of millions in “donations” to sustain athletic departments?
Cool, now do Nebraska's other sports where their volleyball team is top 3 every year, hoops, wrestling, baseball all better than us.
We are one of if not the worst P4 athletic department in the country for a reason. It's green and starts with the letter M.
I understand that. Money isn't a magic wand but if we want to be on a level playing field with our peers, that takes money and a lot of giving.
otherwise you guys need to stop acting surprised why we suck in every sport aside from a glimmer of modest success every so often. If Wisconsin volleyball has X money and a training facility and an all purposes arena then don't bash our team that works on 20% of the budget and gets their asses kicked. Same goes for football, basketball, etc.
The less excuses you can have for why you cannot win, the better your team is. Hence why the blue bloods are good at so many sports. They have everything needed to win, so excuses for why a coach cannot get it done are minimal.
I always said that season ticket buyers should be able to declare the seat fee portion of the ticket for NIL. That’s like $250 per seat…
Alright, let me ask you this then. For curiosity's sake, and without trying to prove a point, I want to see what you have to say. Who is going to donate to the school? And why are they going to donate?
If you want a better product on the field then you need to put your money where your mouth is. That applies for every sport. Doesn't matter if it's $10 or $10,000. Every little bit helps.
