I have grown to loathe recruiting.

I used to try to keep up with our targets/leans/commits. This kind of circus just kills it for me.

And usually the least blameworthy parties are the recruits themselves. They're 17-18 year old kids that are being pushed and pulled in different directions. Parents, coaches, crazy fans, girlfriends, shady "uncles", etc. I don't know how I would handle that sort of pressure at 17.

I followed it really close until the Chris Jones signing class. Got tired of the yearly drama.

I love recruiting for that exact same reason

It's better than soap operas and Wrasslin' combined.

Yeah I imagine at first they think it's exciting to see people wanting you and hearing your name everywhere but in the end it becomes a daily grind on the kid and he just wants it to end or at least calm down a little. Kind of like a beginning movie star. You want your name out there for good jobs and such but once you become successful you start to get paparazzi following your every move and putting it out there for everyone else to see.

Wake me up after signing day. Even then, I won't care too much. It's sad how much attention is given to recruiting a bunch of 17-year olds that no one knows if they'll be good college players or not.

Just like 19-23 year old players that nobody knows if they are going to be good NFL players or not.

Which is why I really don't follow the NFL draft

Just show me results on the field. I admit I start following recruiting about this time each year and that is it. I don't see how people follow this stuff year round

I've found myself following it more and more since our basketball program nosedived. Hopefully Howland can get me back to just checking on football recruiting a time or 2 a week during December and January

That makes sense. Social Media has made it worse for me.

I hate pretty much anything about it, i know it's a necessary evil but it's not for me. I don't want to even hear their names until I hear it in the starting lineup

If you count on 17-18 year olds that you've never met, and probably never will meet, to improve your mood, then you might want to reevaluate where your priorities are. These are divas, attention whores, etc. They live for there year in the spotlight. Kids releasing Top 10 schools every day on Twitter, asking for shout outs, retweets, follows, and all other kinds of attention, its all ridiculous.

I'm going to set the over/under at 6 for the number of times that you post that you don't care about recruiting between now and signing day. And I'm taking the over.

I'm a younger dawg ('12 graduate, wasn't a big fan prior to school) and don't know, so I'm curious; has recruiting always been like this? Seems like a lot of the fuss and drama that goes on today would be fueled by social media and increasingly in depth media coverage. Just wondering if it's a fairly recent trend or it's always been this ridiculous.

$$$$$$$
Recruiting sites stir the frenzy. All about the dollars.
This board is one of the only places I visit online so I don't keep up at all. Much like social media I find 'recruiting season' ridiculous.

I am with you on this...

I know that sleaze and corruption are nothing new to recruiting but they have increased exponentially over the past number of years. It is to the point now that CFB is completely owned by the institutional cheaters. Its very off-putting to me and I cannot stand the whole recruiting process. Not only that but the whole sorry cesspool has lessened my enjoyment of college football. I just hope it does not one day kill it completely for me.

Something has changed?

College football is still owned by the same programs that have always owned it. If anything, we've seen the list of contenders grow the past couple of years.

FB and Twitter is full of annoying fans who fawn over college football players.

This is especially true of Ole Miss fans. This mentality is why recruiting is unbearable now. Yancey tweets out endlessly about recruiting and they eat it up.

Their orgasmic fawning over these players are one of the many reasons I think they are a joke. Yes good players matter but they take it to unhealthy extremes.

It appears to be orchestrated and encouraged and is an overall part of their

recruiting strategy. You just don't see State fans making fools of themselves on Twitter and FB at the same rate as OM fans. At least that is my experience.

Another thing, it seem Rosebowl is constantly fighting off attacks from Bear

fans on twitter. Does Yancey suffer that same problem from our fans and just chooses not to share it?

And Freeze replies to the State crazies with saying he will pray for you.
