I hate the SEC network

I'm just going to say it.

Every time we play on the SEC Network, I'm relegated to sitting at my desk in the bedroom watching on my computer (thanks only to BWO's incredible live-streams).

The SEC Network isn't even offered by any of the cable company that are available where I live, with the exception of Direct TV which is WAY to expensive.

I could certainly hook my computer up to the TV, but it would just be the same ****** computer quality footage and my wife will just complain the whole time.

Every time we play on the SEC Network, a small piece of me dies.

Just needed to vent about that on a slow friday

I got it added to my cable plan for $5 a month, and got the NFL channels, nba tv, fox and cbs sports too. Plus big ten and longhorn network but who cares.

I would think, worst case scenario, you could chromecast or do a direct line to your tv, both of which I've done.

Well I called each of my cable providers, and they all said the same thing, which is that the licensing to broadcast the SEC Network in my geographical area was substantially more expensive for their company, so they have declined to pick it up.

My area really only had 3 main providers, Dish, Direct TV and Cox, and I won't do satellite.

get Directv base package then switch to the package that includes the SEC network on the days you want to do that. they will prorate your bill and its really easy to switch on line between packages takes two seconds

It rains too much and every time it rains, Direct TV loses signal.

I have Cox and added the channel two months ago for $5 extra a month. And the guy on the phone was in Lexington and a UK student. We both said "Go Big Blue" as we ended the call.

I couldn't disagree more. I love the SEC network. I was able to see every single basketball game last season in HD, a first for me. I'm not sure why you are resistant to satellite TV. I was skeptical of DirecTV before I switched, but now wouldn't change to anything else.

Weren't there quite a few UF football games on SEC Network this year? That should have caused a lot of complaints.

That hasn't been my experience. It takes a huge storm for me to lose signal, the kind where the power and cable might be knocked out too. Once the worst of the storm passes, signal back on.

Tampa has 15 cable providers and they all get every channel and it was cheaper than what I'm paying now and I never lost signal and it was great.

Not anymore.

Where do you live?

I know my uncle who lives just outside of Danville struggles with the same thing, every time there's even a little bit of rain, he loses signal as well.

Yeah I've done that before, but all my wife does is complain that it isn't "HD Quality".

And says things like "Why the hell did we buy a big expensive HD TV if we are just going to watch this kind of quality"

I have Directv and have had it since 2004. I have friends who had Comcast, Charter... Time warner. My signal goes out due to weather less than their signals go out for random reasons like work on the line etc....

depends on how you have your dish set up. If there are leaves or trees in the way yeah but if you get a clear signal of the sky and its path the satellites take then rain won't effect it much. Of course if you live near a lot of tree's and don't want to cut them or trim them..... then satellite isn't for you.

Yeah, like I said, I think it really helps to be in a city, because I had Direct TV for a few years in Tampa and it worked fine.

Oh and one other factor is when did they get the satellite tv dish installed. The older ones are crap.... the newer ones since 2010 are much better. People don't like paying to have them come out and install newer dish's so people usually just stick with the old ones.

I'm not sure, but I would guess older, because I doubt that people here would want to pay to have them re-installed.

The SEC network though needs more shows. Why the Big 10 or more importantly the SEC hasnt tried a reality TV show is beyond me...... people are suckers for those shows and it would get more viewers.

It also helps when you live in a major city, which I no-longer do.

7 out of the 10 years I've had Directv were spent in Effingham, IL and Spottsville, KY. I don't think you're on target with your "it helps to be in a big city" theory.

$25 a month with no commitment (cancel anytime) to get all the ESPN's (including sec network but not SEC ALT) and a rather basic streaming cable service. I have an Xbox One, a Roku 3 and an apple TV.

Had Directv and hardly ever lost the signal. Even with heavy rain in South Carolina. Have Cox now in Rhode Island and got sports package for $5 a month that includes the SEC network. What's the issue??

40 games (BBM, scrimmage, 2 exib games)

55 inch HD, Lazy Boy, cheap popcorn and drink.
Better than a season ticket.
I worked 50+ years to earn this and I won't give it up.

Same here. Only during seriously bad storms do I lose signal, and then only for a few minutes during (as you said) the worst of the storm. A lot has to do with how well your installer does aligning the dish.

I've had DirecTV since 2000 and mine goes out all the time during storms.

OP needs to get rid of that nagging wife, that seems to be where all the trouble stems from. My wife doesn't complain about the picture when I hook the computer to the tv, but then, I chose wisely.

+1. I ditched my satellite a few years ago and haven't looked back. SlingTV with the sports package and an over the air receiver for the CBS games (or BWO's online streams) and you would be all set. The best part is, there's no contract so you could cancel in the off-season.

Of course, I'm sure you watch things other than UK basketball, and you'd need a decent internet connection, but it's an option to consider.

I'm not being cheap, my cable companies here DO NOT OFFER SEC Network.

Reading comprehension is seriously not very difficult.

And I do live in civilization, I just live in a small college town (Norman, OK)
