Bills really shouldn’t even have been in a position to win the game anyways. You’ve got 4 & 13 under the 2 minute warning down 5 and KC gives up a TD in busted coverage. Both sides screwed up. In my mind it was a wash

But as far as the kick-off goes, did KC put Hill back there? I think that could have played a factor. He’s deadly in returns. If they squib it that doesn’t guarantee a win.
I didn’t see him on kickoffs just punt returner…

participation ribbons for everyone. rules are the same for both sides. honestly if you cant get some kind of stop with 13 seconds left you deserve to lose

I believe the NFL now has a rule (thanks to John Harbaugh) that you can be assessed a 15 yard penalty and the clock will be reset to what it was at the beginning of the play if it is deemed that you intentionally commit penalty to manipulate the clock.
I remember the Harbaugh situation but didn't know the NFL had provided for putting time back on the clock.

If that game wasn't so exciting, I wonder if anybody would have cared about how it ended. I think people just wanted it to keep going because it was so fantastic. Because if you're being objective, you'd admit the Bill's freaking blew it, all time choke job considering what was on the line.

Meh it all depends on who it benefits. I hated the rule 4 years ago. This one benefited my rooting interest. Chiefs have been on both sides the last 4 years. With that said I do think they need to revisit the rule this off season.

I'm a Chiefs fan but it was hard not to cheer for Allen. If the Bills would have won. I would have like to see how the run ended for them.

I agree. Basketball should have the same rule. First to score in OT wins. Don't like it, quit being a sissy.
And baseball. Top of the 10th if the team scores, game over. Shoulda stopped them!

In my way of thinking the Bills should have pooch-kicked it down the middle, which would have used up 3-8 seconds.
This. Except I wouldn't kick it in the air, as they could fair catch that. I would have bounced it down there and force them to field it, let it go in the end zone, or out of bounds. It takes 5 seconds likely and you just limited the number of touches Mahomes gets.

Why they didn't bracket cover the receivers is completely beyond me. Extremely poor.

For the record, I don't like the system either. Essentially the game is decided by a coin toss. This is not college so don't even compare. These should be the most elite FB teams on the planet but let's just toss a coin here.

normally he’s not in Kickoff Reuters but he really hasn’t been on punts either. I think that’s normally Hardman. but I know they used Hill yesterday on a punt so was thinking they’d have thrown him in on that Kick off too. He’s the best return guy on the roster if not the league so would have made sense to use him

The Chiefs also never stopped the Bills, they just won the toss.

I think the only thing that needs to change now is a chance for the non-receiving team to match the score, whatever it is.

The league is driven by offense and all the rules favor the offense, why require a defensive stop to win the game for you just because you lose the toss?
Spot on

Just read an article in the KC Star that after the AFC Championship loss to NE in OT, the Chiefs made a proposal to the league to change the rules to ensure both teams got at least one possession. It was never voted on due to a lack of support.

Ironically, in addition to the playoff game yesterday, KC won in OT in the same manner at the Chargers late in the season. Without that win, last nights game would have been in Buffalo.
