TJ Lateef >>>>>>>>>>Kaelin

We have to stop thinking with our hearts and build a competitive team.
Reading the tea leaves I believe this was a factor in him hitting the bricks

I certainly wasn’t talking about his character, all my thoughts on this board are about football only. I don’t know his ceiling, but the little I have seen from spring ball and HS tapes says he ain’t that good. I don’t know any players personally.
I comment on this board about football, not the Eulogy’s given by any of these kids.
But by all means, go ahead and get offended on all these guys behalf if you want… I still don’t care
If you've never coached a kid or had them in your classroom, you aren't qualified to say they suck. You can speculate that they aren't good enough to crack the two deep here or whatever, that's a fan observation and that's fine. Once we start saying that a redshirt freshman kid sucks having never coached them or know what their work ethic is, that's ********. I've known several players through the years. Some of them played at NU, some weren't good enough to play and had to move on. None of them "sucked." If I know a kid, I'm always gonna have their back.

If we had to have a player give a eulogy It'd be DK. For QB he'd be 3rd/4th string.
You might well be correct. My ground is that if you don't know a kid, never coched them, never had them in your class, I don't stand idle when someone says they "suck." Not good enough to make the travel squad depth chart, that's one observation. Saying they outright suck, that's ********.

According to someone i trust, DK was progressing this year and looked pretty good in practice. Freshman certainly.
He left because he does not want to sit behind DR.
Having said that, I agree with you that we need to be elite. Im not sure DK will ever be elite. Maybe maybe not, but not at the moment. But he progressed a lot from spring game.

Lateef has nothing to do with it, as another poster tried to say.

The state of Nebraska has really produced crap the last 20 years. Some have gone to other schools and got drafted like Fant but every instate player from Nebraska that has played at Nebraska has been pretty much a disappointment. The days of Eric Crouch and Ahman Green seem like 50 years ago. I could honestly give a crap if we ever signed someone from Nebraska because they never produce at the college level.
If your gauge of college success is going to the NFL, that’s not a fair assessment. Do you realize how few kids from P5 schools end up in the NFL? You hope when you take a Nebraska that he can be a multi-year contributor or starter. The NFL is a pipe dream. Thats why when our staff drops the ball on guys like Fant and Phillips it hurts so much. IF it’s between two 3 star developmental guys, I’m taking the Nebraska kid every time.

It's crazy because as fans we will probably never know if this was the case or not. That said I absolutely think Lateef was/is a better QB as well. It should be ok for someone to say they don't think so and so is a very good player. Guys take it so personal.

That said I DO wish DK the best and hope he does well wherever he decides to go. I think he's a ok prospect. I think Lateef is better. Whether the coaches "chose" one over the other doesn't matter anymore.

Let's back the guys who are currently Huskers.

It could but one would need to be a 2 or low 3 star developmental depth guy.

Problem with that is most 2 or low 3 star developmental guys don't know they developmental depth guys lol. They wanna play if they are worth a damn for the most part.

I have always been of the mindset that you take the best player PERIOD. I don't give a **** where he's from. Nebraskans become waaay too sentimental when it comes to the in state kids.

That's not to say they all suck either because I'm not saying that. I think they look for good "stories" of hometown kid done well for the state university. I'm just more interested in winning and doing it with the best players you can recruit/buy.

My beef is that some of the times it's obvious. Yet we still talk about the 1 time outta 3000 and use IT as the barometer lol.

I'll stop there lol.

If you have a home state legacy recruit who is a 3 star 5.6 who has at least one offer from a P4 school you offer him and develop him.

Why does it matter where he is from? THATS my push back? Would you feel the same way if he was from somewhere else? What if he's taking a scholarship from a 5.7 non legacy player from somewhere else?

Does that matter? Do we not want the better player?

Well, suck is a relative term the way people use it in sports, yes?
It’s fine for you to have their backs, after all this is just a message board, you can opine on whatever you want. I suppose I have their backs too, since I am an 1890 donor. I certainly hope you are 😉

I think the prospect of Lateef's legs play a lot into the QB situation. No doubt, DR not much of a runner and not instinctive either. I think if DR would take off about 10-15 pounds he would be a much better QB.

I really don't watch any NFL, so are there QB's in that league that actually play that come off as chubby guys?
I know their ability to run the ball in college varied quite a bit.

Seems like Sonny Jurgenson days have been over for a long time. Maybe not. Am I wrong?
As I said, I don't watch any pro ball.
DR is never going to be a runner, not even mobile, so I don't see what good taking off weight does besides likely hurting his best asset, his arm strength. Hope he gets better moving in the pocket, but mobility is not his forte.

I'm cool with it only because I never want to hear the phrase "Danny Dimes" again.

Best of luck to the kid.

You mean that is why 8 of our last 9 recruiting classes have ranked in the top 25 nationally per Rivals, and we've not had a single winning season, let alone sniff the top 25, despite all these touted recruiting classes. 🤨
C'mon man, you're smarter than this. It's also coaches doing a **** job. 😉

To see if they are underrated in the process and are really 5.8s. With some kids in this State, I feel like they rate them like horror movies are rated. You will never see a horror movie obtain more than a 7.5/10 even if it's a clear 9.

There is only one Nebraska kid who didn't have an offer from another p4 school. We happened to be his only offer. He's a project. Great vision, good acceleration, 6'1'' but runs really low to the ground, ability to switch to receiver or even linebacker after a couple years in the weight room if you want. So you take a chance on that athlete that's in your homestate. You do it to develop relationships with these high school coaches and eventually you'll find an all conference player or better. If you don't, you make it a lot easier for coaches from Georgia to come in and poach a Carter Nelson. Rhule crashed a wedding in his hometown because Georgia was close to landing him.

Losing the unknown doesn’t bother me. It’s the known contributors that ups the frustration level. EJ is really the only portal notification that hurts…..depending on who we bring in of course.

If anything I think the weight may help his durability. I’ve heard multiple former NFL players say that carrying a little fat cushion helped prevent soft tissue injuries. I’m not talking about carrying an extra 25 lbs but an extra ten never hurt any player. Dylan isn’t fat.

One good game in 2 years and people think he's a heisman caliber player. Sounds like he wanted a bag (which I don't blame him) and mr/dh decided they could get better value for the money. Not a big loss imo. Princewell and Williams are bigger losses as good d-linemen are a lot harder to find than rb's.

He may not be fat, just like Tom Brady is not fat and is actually kinda jacked, but they both run like they're fat.
