I guess the SEC doesn't care.

Oh they care. They get alot of $$$$ for it being on Sunday. Also, I think that theory is overblown that Sunday doesn’t count. They have said over and over they have contingency plans in place if something happens in a Sunday game that could affect some seed lines. Now Texas AM and Kentucky several years back made it seem like it didn’t matter, but that was an anomaly.

Most of the time, the two teams in the title game basically have their seeds wrapped up. 2016 was a prime example that they don’t have contingency plans and go with the Saturday plan.

Either they don't care or they are stupid by keeping the championship on Sunday. Time and time again the NCAA has shown that Sunday games don't matter when it comes to seeding.
They want the $$$$ the most, and they want ESPN happy 2nd. Benefit to the teams is a distant third.

It’s all about TV. The SEC will not say anything about it because of the money the league receives from ESPN. The SEC will NOT put up a fight for the basketball programs when it comes to the money.

Heck, just watch how the ACC and Big 12 treat their Blue Bloods compared to how the SEC treats UK and you’ll see why the SEC tournament runs to Sunday.

Yeah it's been made clear in the past that winning the SEC tourney doesn't reflect in the brackets

They don't. They've literally said this over and over.

The only way I see them having a back up plan is if some bubble team or long shot gets to the title game. Lets just say it’s somehow Arky vs UK in the title game, then I’d believe they’d have a bracket with Arky in or out. But if it’s UK vs Tenn, I’m saying the seeds are already set regardless of the outcome.

While I agree it's a bit ridiculous, I feel like much is made of this. In the end it's one game not being considered. Just one. In a season of 30+. Not to mention the fact that a loss in a title game can still hurt you. People talk about the benefit in seeding but also need to consider that fact you could get dinged if you lost. We are fighting with Auburn and Alabama for similar seeds. What if one of them knocked us off in a Saturday title game?

Heck the Big Ten plays even later than us on a Sunday.

Unless you are weighing conference titles larger and giving that distinction added benefit, one game wouldn't change how I feel about any team.

11 and 16 come to mind. You got any examples of a Sunday league champion improving their seed? I really can’t name any off the top of my head.

No I don't, which is why I said Sunday doesn't matter. They've literally told us that, and they've also backtracked on it in other years. They (NCAA) basically do what they want, and make the rest up later.

You would think that with the money that SEC football generates for ESPN, an Sat basketball SECT championship wouldn't be a huge ask. It's a small bone to toss the SEC.

Gotcha. I got my lines crossed up on your first post. I think we’re on the same page.

I guess it's a ratings issue. We are the only conference playing on Sunday. It absolutely should still matter, though. The NCAA should just have to deal with the ****.

I think years ago the SEC wanted to be on Sunday to drum up interest because we couldn’t compete with the B10 or ACC in tv ratings. Now that we take basketball seriously we’re one of the best conferences.

Didn’t matter when UK beat Fla in 2011 either

I'd like to see documentation or an exact quote from the committee saying it doesn't matter with regard to seeding. And I mean currently.

Yes - I've seen in the past that it didn't APPEAR to matter for seeding, but is that actually the truth. People just keep repeating it like it's true, but I'm not 100% convinced it is.

Are we really one of the best conferences? I'll be very interested in seeing how the SEC does in the NCAA tournament. I don't have much faith in any team from the SEC going very far.

At the end of the day it's ONE game. It really isn't going to make much of a difference when the committee is looking at your resume as a whole lol.
A little bit of a jump from they have contingency plans to it’s just one game, but I get your point. I would’ve loved to seen the contingency bracket in 16 if we lost the SECT title game.

If the SEC were to say they are going to start on Tuesday and finish on Sat the networks would it out.

The SEC has taken no such stance.

Nor will they. They would hire competent basketball officials first. And that’s for sure not happening.

Why have a conference that invites everyone to the tourney? Cut the tourney down to 10 teams. It could end on a Saturday.

Yea the SEC usually stinks in the OOC and NCAAT games but the top 6 in the league this year are pretty darn good.

Kenpom has us as the 4th best conference.

But u have teams like Vandy, Arkansas and Missouri that really drive that down. The top of the league is as good as anyone.
