I’m not a big fan of women calling men’s sports, especially football and basketball...but the lady that called the state game last night and calls a lot of SEC games does a good job.

There are bad and good female announcers just like there are bad and good male announcers. The SECN team you are talking about is possibly their best one.
I'm with y'all - never cared for women announcing men's sports but she is the best I've heard. I like her. Thinking she played basketball and maybe tennis at Coastal.
I Googled her and she actually played basketball, tennis and softball at Coastal Carolina, and is in their University Hall of Fame. Pretty impressive that somebody can play three sports at the Division I level.
Are y'all talking about not liking female play by play, or color commentators? The play-by-play I could care less about the gender of the person doing it. It's just a skill of being able to quickly and clearly convey what is going on in the game and doesn't seem to me to have a lot to do with being able to play the game.
I don't get having color commentators that have not played the game. Having a female color commentator on men's basketball is like having a baseball player commentating on softball. Yes, the games look similar, but they are different. There is enough similarity that you can get by with it, but generally it seems better to have somebody that played the actual game doing the commentating.
This thread is funny because brooke has been consistently ripped on by posters here for the last 2 seasons, but this thread is mostly complimentary.
As mentioned already, and mentioned last year, she is a helluvan athlete and extremely accomplished. She has excellent insight and does a good job of knowing players games and tendancies within the conference.

I found her irritating at times last week. Less this week. I think it had more to do with the game than her ability.
Seriously though, she does a solid job. There are several female announcers that do a good job and I would rather listen to than MANY male announcers who are former coaches and players because they have a hard time being impartial.
Mostly it's bad when they either talk too much and it's not about the game, or they go on tangents talking about smoothies and other off the court stuff.
Stick to the game, say who the foul was called on, and how many they have.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. It might not be the same posters, but several people were giving her grief during the game last night. I suppose her prediction of needing 5 more wins just to be on the NCAA bubble probably enhanced the criticism.
I think she does a good job. Most fans of a team seem to always think that the announcers pull for the other team, but that's always a biased opinion. For instance, many Alabama fans think that Vern and Gary are against them, but we know better.

I couldn’t care less either, but it is a fact that she and others are women. I don’t see a problem in pointing that out to distinguish between them. There’s plenty men I don’t like too. Actually, there is very few I’ll listen to over our radio broadcast. But Brooke is one person that happens to be a woman, that I do turn the tv volume up and listen to.**
The only female announcer that I don't care for is Beth Mowins. She does a pretty competent job, but I just don't like her voice, and that's part of the overall effect. And for some reason, a female announcer only bothers me when she calls a football game. Basketball is OK.

Either way, you should all be listening to Neil Price and Richard Williams while watching the TV broadcast. They're the best broadcast team we've had. Team.
My comments didn't haveto do with gender. I mean when they go on a tangent and miss the action on the field or court, doesn't matter who it is, it sucks.
I don't prefer Dottie pepper at the masters, but the first year she did it,I felt like she talked way more than she does now.
It was like she needed to prove she deserved to be there, and the more she talked, the worse it was.

Dottie would drop a full paragraph about the green firmness and Speiths shoes.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the job of a urologist is not to comment on some of the subtleties of what it's like to have a dick, and the job of an OB/GYN is not to comment on what it's like to have a ******? I'm a little concerned about the medical care you and your family may be getting now...There's an entire school and everything doctors have to go to and specialized training and continuing education. You should be getting mroe than just comments about them having the equipment in question.

I thought that comment was ludicrous. It caught my attention, but otherwise I did think she was better than some.
I could care less if it's a man or a woman, but if they don't know what they're talking about - yes, I form an opinion about some things.

Nothing wrong with that. ** I suppose when she's normally on air, you only see her face, and that's just momentarily, so it doesn't matter what she wears. She wore something similar to what you described when she did the soccer segment with Ado during the A&M game.
You mean someone who has never had a baby could deliver a baby or heaven forbid talk about having a baby with someone else? Or say, never played football but discuss the merits of cover 2 vs straight man coverage?
Somebody that has never played cannot really talk with expertise about what it's like playing just like somebody who has never given birth cannot really talk with expertise about what it's like giving birth. It's really not that hard. Many parts of the job prior playing or coaching experience is not necessary or even irrelevant, but but if you are going to have a color commentator, it makes sense to have one that can provide color.
